Hottest 100 Voting - The 5 Types of Voters

Oddschecker

Which of these 5 types of JJJ Hottest 100 voters best represents you and your mates?

Triple J’s Hottest 100 voting has become a truly global phenomenon, with voters from over 170 countries as far away as Burkina Faso, South Korea and Antarctica last year.

Even so, the countdown never fails to bring the usual suspects out of the woodwork. We’ve found the five types of voters you’ll encounter and the tunes they’ll be backing for top spot.

With voting finishing up at 9am Monday, January 23, there’s only a few days left to cast your ballots and get your bets on. Read on for our list.

Written by Tim Alexander

The hipster will go out of their way to vote for the most obscure bands and their Hottest 100 top ten will be virtually unrecognisable to casual listeners.

You can spot a hipster by their collection of questionable vinyl records, thick-rimmed glasses and daily blog posts about how the countdown has become ‘way too mainstream’.

Shunning anything even remotely popular, the hipster’s choice for 2017 is Every So Often by Family Rain, which you’ve probably never heard before either.

The old-timer will complain to anyone and everyone about the new-fangled songs the kids are voting for these days, flatly refusing to believe they’re the ones out of touch.

Often lurking in the Facebook comments section, the old-timer also enjoys making an appearance at the family BBQ on Australia Day, generally as the ‘cool’ uncle or know-it-all in-law.

Claiming to have voted for over 20 years, their list is a throwback to the 1990s and the old-timer’s top pick for the 2017 countdown is Dumb Things by A.B. Original feat. Paul Kelly.

The clubber absolutely loves their bangers. A tune’s beats per minute and potential for a deep house remix are major factors when it comes to their Hottest 100 voting.

In their natural habitat, the clubber can be found cutting shapes on the d-floor, but in public they’re easily identified by the filthy bass blasting through their headphones.

As a general rule, only songs achieving a BPM of 120+ will be considered for their top ten and this year the clubber will be voting for Do It Right by Martin Solveig.

There’s one reason and one reason only that the bogan will be voting in the Triple J countdown, namely the annual Australia Day drinking game.

You know the rules. Correctly guess the next song? Nek nominate someone to drink. One of your hard thought out song selections misses the top 10? Drink. Pick the top spot? Celebratory shoey time!

The bogan enjoys his Australian hip-hop and has plenty of local tunes to choose from in 2017, but will likely be voting for Catch 22 by Illy feat. Anne-Marie.

The punter always has something riding on the Hottest 100 result. They’re in it to win it and will be confidently encouraging friends and family to back their top ten list.

It’s obvious they’re only voting to bring their bets home and the punter will dust off the old Hotmail email account to give their songs an extra vote in the right direction.

Having followed the odds fluctuations and bookie markets closely, the punter’s pick for 2017 is Adore by Amy Shark, which is currently neck-and-neck with Flume for top spot.

The rail is out six metres the entire circuit but the track should play relatively fairly. However, on some days speed bias plays a major role at Eagle Farm and in particular if the track is rock hard.

The reason is the winners run great sectionals and it is usually those up on the pace who win. This is a typical off-season meeting with some ordinary races but a good two-year-old and an excellent three- year-old races.

TEN FOOT TALL We have gone for value here on a horse who was well beaten at her only start. But she has won two recent jump outs and is by champion sire I Am Invincible. She has reportedly been working well this week.

PARADIS IMPERIAL She has won her only four races in Rockhampton and Mackay. Can run on the pace or lead. Central Queensland has a record of producing top two-year-olds who can race well in Brisbane.

CRUSHER Demolished an ordinary two-year-old field at Toowoomba at his only start. From a strong Darling Downs stable and should be in the finish here from handy barrier.

ZUKAZ Missed a run in the Magic Millions Classic last week and then scratched on Wednesday for this. Each-way hopes are strong.

GAME PIE Is a plodder but so are the rest of this field. Didn't run a bad race last time when fourth in a Metropolitan standard race at the Gold Coast. He is nicely placed here at the weights.

CITATIONS From an astute Sydney stable and has been around the place his two starts this area. He is fit and ready to win one of these.

SCOTTY BE GOTTI Usually races his best at the Gold Coast where he looked certain to win on the home turn before being run down in final 150m last start. Each-way claims here.

QUICK SNITZEL He is yet to win at the distance but gives every indication he can be a handy stayer. Nice run last start and looks well placed here with a claim.

NO 7 KHALEESI (BEST BET) There are few more consistent mares racing in Queensland and she was very strong at her last-start win. She was once ridden for pace in her races but now being ridden from behind and finishing hard. The stable has the knack of keeping their mares racing in top form and she will be hard to beat again.

EXECUTED Prolific winner who won last year's QTC Lightning. Good effort when second first-up under a huge weight and has a perfect barrier draw here. Looks very hard to beat as he should get the run of the race.

ESPIRITU (Best Roughie) It has been a while since she has won but on her day would be right in the finish here. Has a very good second-up record and didn't have a lot of luck first-up in a tougher race.

EL SASSO Smart Sydney performer on his day although he probably wants the sting out of the track. Has class on his side.

HARD STRIDE Has usually been about the place in this type of race. He has a 3kgs claim here which brings him right into the race. Wide barriers are not always a disadvantage from this start.

DYLAN'S LUCK If ever a horse needs to live up to his name it is Dylan's Luck who has had no luck his last few runs. A very good second last time gives him a top chance here.

ALWAYS SACRED He is smart on his day and had no luck first-up before being ordinary last time at the Gold Coast. If he strikes form he will be hard to beat.

PAJADOS Has been racing very well in the northern rivers which usually isn't good enough for this type of race. But might be slightly above average so should be respected.

JETSONIC He has always shown potential and is in the right type of race here. Didn't have much luck last start and fitter now.

L'ENTRECOTE He has been racing well for a long time and seems to go best when he gets a good barrier and can sit on the pace. Drawn barrier one here with a top jockey so should be hard to hold out.

SHOREHAM He was very well backed at the Gold Coast last start and ran a very good second after having no luck. On his old form would beat these by lengths but not getting any younger.

LORDAG Has been a disappointment this campaign as he has failed to run a place in five starts. Hasn't been far away in stronger races so must be considered here.

BLUE LION Another who has been disappointing at last couple of runs. This is his best distance and he is down in the weights. Not without a knock out chance in this.

FORGOTTEN YEARS We keep tipping him, he keeps running great races but something usually goes wrong and he is just off the winner at the finish. It was the same story last time when nosed out of third by a 50-1 shot. This is his last chance with us but has everything going for him here.

DENARIUS He is a very promising horse but never has any luck. Once again he has drawn off the track here but with any luck can be in the finish.

PRINCESS CHARM How she is an emergency after her last start storming win is anyone’s guess. But if she gets a run will nearly win this from good barrier with no weight.

HOTEL DRIVE If he can get an easy lead he will be hard to beat here. But that is a big if. Still rates highly from excellent barrier.

Moonee Valley is notoriously regarded as a racetrack for punters, designed by bookmakers.

Weather forecast is for cloudy conditions, with morning showers and a sunny afternoon. Top temperature 23C.

The track surface is rated a GOOD 4. The rail will be in the TRUE position for the entire circuit.

Moonee Valley is notoriously regarded as a racetrack for punters, designed by bookmakers. So, be careful to monitor the tendency for track bias. Having the rail at the True inside position should lessen the advantage to front-runners. However, it would pay to “go with the flow” if the leading divisions are tending to dominate results and if back-markers / swoopers are struggling to make up ground.

INVINCIBLE AL Has been desperately unlucky last two runs and gets his chance to break through here. Hopelessly blocked until final 80m when nose second Pearl Congenial 1000m Sandown BM70 24 December then wasn’t given rein until final 50m when close third Capanello, Barthelona 1100m Flemington last Saturday. Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim makes him a great hope. Should go back from wide draw but will be pelting home.

STRICTLY LEGIT Very promising type who created huge impression on debut when he circled the field and cleared out to beat Bolossomo 1000m Mornington 20 December then made up ground late for two-length third Mystified 1100m Caulfield 7 December. Improved by that experience and rates highly with Mark Zahra going on.

MR SNEAKY Challenged on straightening and battled on gamely for half-length fourth Pearl Congenial, Invincible Al 1000m BM70 Sandown 23 December then relished blinkers to easily beat Chateau Cheval 1100m Werribee BM64. This is slightly tougher and he meets Invincible Al 2kg worse for Sandown defeat. Will be handy from barrier 1 and definitely has improved with blinkers on.

EDEN ROC Is supremely well bred and has trialled super on two occasions leading into a debut run this preparation. He led in the first trial and kicked away for a nice win. The second trial he sat off them and worked to the line well. I like that he has shown that tactical versatility. From gate 2 he should jump and run and be hard to beat.

WATCHDOG Behind Eden Roc in his only trial at Rosehill and he wasn’t knocked around in that. He looks as if he had some gears “under the hood” in that trial. With a host of gear changes from that trial to debut and the way Godolphin 2yos are going, this is a chance.

PANDEMONIUM Will hit the ground running from barrier 11 here and with the blinkers on for the debut run. She has trialled on three occasions and I have no knock on them. She seems a big price for a Gai runner on debut at home!

ULTRAMARINE Has had three trials coming into this debut run and looks to have plenty of ability. He has improved with each trial leading into his debut runner and with “Team Capitalist” combining again, you need to respect them.

HARLEM LADY Let’s cut to the chase, she has been disappointing through her career, but was absolutely slaughtered last start at Warwick farm. She appears here, blinkers first time as a Zabeel mare gives a massive tick, as does the booking of Bowman. She has to be on top with all those positive changes.

ANISHA Should be much better suited here. She jumped way on grade to run in a Group race last week and she wasn’t at all well placed there. To the open expanses of Randwick and a wide gate in this field she will be much more comfortable. Don’t get worried if she drops the bit at the 600m as that’s how she races.

LYCIA Won well last start at Warwick Farm and steps to the mile for the first time in her career. Off her last-start win, she looks as if she will get it. The small field will suit her and from gate 1 she is going to get a super soft run and has a chance to go back to back.

NIC'S VENDETTA Deserves to win a highway and gets his chance here first-up from a spell with Bowman aboard. The trial coming in was quite good. His highway form is impeccable and from barrier 1, hopefully Bowman sits a pair behind them and pounces at the top of the rise.

CLIPPER Hard not to be impressed with how she has gone about it this time in with two wins in her first two starts. It’s a good time to bring her to town to take advantage of the prizemoney on offer. She has improved with each run this time in and if she does again, she will be hard to beat.

SUPER STAR BOB Ran a super-fast time in debut at Canberra coming home in 33.8 for his last 600m which was super-fast time for the day there. Second start straight to the city, Dale must have a big opinion of this Mossman gelding to bring him here and you need to respect the placement.

CARE TO THINK Won well on debut at the Gold Coast. Dunn and highways have been printing money as of late, but I think this horse needs further than the 1200m and may get too far out of his ground.

BURNING ENERGY If he doesn’t need a lie down after last week’s monster effort he should be winning this. We all saw what happened last week, they went mad in front and he was just off them and somehow held on for third. Seven-day backup and a 3kg claim have him well in and he is hard to beat.

MULTIFACETS Has trialled well between runs and comes off a good effort last start at Rosehill. He should now be ready for 2000m, the weight is the issue for me, as he is yet to carry a big weight and win.

UNBIASED Comes out of the race behind Burning Energy at Canterbury last start and he found the line well. He should be ready for 2000m now after a good grounding leading into this. Doyle jumps aboard and there is no one else you’d rather be on a stayer at the moment.

MANHATTAN SON Also comes out of the Burning Energy race at Canterbury, he hit the line quite well there. The step up to 2000m as well as the open expanses of Randwick suit.

LIAPARI Comes here on the seven-day backup and gets a good weight drop. Avdulla on is also a bonus. I think that a mile is his best distance and on the quick turnaround I want him on my side here.

CAUTHEN'S POWER Won well last start and had a perfect set up for the race that day. Two weeks between runs and staying at the mile on top of the ground suit perfectly. If he hasn’t gone backwards since that last start run he has his chance here.

SONG AND LAUGHTER Third-up to the mile should be well suited and ready to go now. Her last start third should not be mistaken. She was smashed in a four-horse race. The first-up run however was super. The mile suits, but she would like some cut out of the ground and that would enhance her chances.

SABINO SPEED Backs up quickly here after an even sort of an effort last week. His record at the mile isn’t the greatest as his six wins have come from 1200m-1400m. But after last week I think he is looking for it now and has a chance here.

No 1 ECUADOR (Next Best Bet) Gets all favours with the small field here. He was fantastic upon resuming when toughing it out with 62kgs. He has had four weeks to get over that run which should have him nice and fresh here. This race is no tougher than his first-up run. Gai horses at home have a great record and if he gets his own way in front they won’t be running him down.

LOUIE SEA KAY Backs up after a solid effort last week where he wasn’t at all suited. Rail back to the true position helps him here as he will find the lane about six horses off the fence which will have him right in the finish here.

KING DARCI Has been in great form this time in and gets another chance to win here. The last-start win was tough and he was too good for them. He should be able to sit just off them and with even luck he is in the finish.

IMANUI Missed the kick by three lengths last start and that was the end of the race for him. He hit the line powerfully there for a run which said “be on me next start” he drops well in weight here and I think everyone would be cheering for Ron Quinton here.

GOT UNDERS Didn’t have much luck last week at Canterbury, the winner was off and gone and he was stuck on the fence and only got clear late to just miss in the finish. Down in the weights to 54kgs he gets his chance here.

GOT THE GOSS (Best Roughie) Brings an amazing first-up record to this race of four wins from five starts and has trialled up in super fashion leading into this run. His form last prep was in better races than this. He has had a good break and 1200m at Randwick suits. Matty Cahill is riding winner after winner at the minute and he has a big hope here.

DEPLOY Has come back in dynamic fashion this time in with two wins from as many starts at Canterbury. He steps up in grade again, but as mentioned before he has above average ability and can keep climbing through the grades here.

SUSPENSE Got a late split and charged at the line when winning last start, I am to assume instructions will be the same as that turn of foot was dynamic. He looks to be back in form and has his chance.

NOBLE JOEY Will be thereabouts yet again as he has been running quite well in all runs this time in without being able to break through. 53.5kgs gives him his chance.

Sydney FC vs Adelaide Betting Preview | A-League Betting Tips

Oddschecker

Sydney FC’s historic start to the season goes on the line against Adelaide on Friday.

Sydney FC’s historic start to the season goes on the line against Adelaide on Friday.

The Sky Blues are still unbeaten after 15 rounds and go into this one against the defending champions having been held to a scoreless draw in the latest Sydney Derby.

Adelaide will come into this game with a bit of form, something that hasn’t been said much all season, as they upset Melbourne City 2-1 at home in Round 15.

MEAN AND CLEAN

Sydney FC’s brilliant run throughout the A-league season can be put down largely to their defence. Conceding less than half a goal a game, they have only copped seven goals all season and only once has a team scored more than one against them in a match.

Goalkeeper Danny Vukovic has to be one of the finds of the season as he has pulled off some great stops and instills confidence in the back four of the Sydney defence.

Highlighting just how stingy the defence has been is their unbelievable nine clean sheets in the competition!

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

Adelaide racked up just their second win of the season when beating Melbourne City last week. That win broke a five-game skid without a win in which four of those games were losses.

Remarkably their 10 points has them off the bottom of the table although they are still equal with the Mariners but have a better For and Against.

If the Reds hope to play finals football then that win could be the catalyst for a big run in, however, they cannot afford to slip up as they are seven points adrift of sixth spot.

THE HISTORY

Adelaide is one of four teams to have taken points off Sydney this season and that was at this very venue back in Round 8 when it finished nil-all.

Just a few weeks later though on Boxing Day it was Sydney FC running rampant at Coopers, putting four past Eugene Galekovic in a 4-0 romp.

That was the Sky Blues first win against Adelaide in seven outings.

THE VERDICT

Graham Arnold’s side will benefit from not having to travel all week and playing back-to-back games at home. They have been spectacular in front of The Cove this season, winning seven and drawing once in eight games as the ‘home’ team while averaging 2.62 goals per game.

While Adelaide will have their tails up following last week’s win, they are still the only team in the competition to register a victory away from home (three draws, four losses).

Making the task even harder for Gui Amor’s side is their lack of scoring on the road which is averaging a poor 0.57 goals per match. Against a stubborn defence like Sydney’s, they will need the likes of Sergi Guardiola and Henrique to really produce something special here.

In an added bonus for the home team, Josh Brilliante returns from suspension which will only strengthen their defensive stocks.

Boasting the second-best attack in the competition, Sydney FC have only been held scoreless twice all season and one of those was against Adelaide but it is difficult to see it happening again here.

Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners Betting Preview | A-League Betting Tips

Oddschecker

City will look to get back to winning ways when they host the Mariners.

City will look to get back to winning ways when they host the Mariners.

The glamour team of the competition were upset 2-1 by Adelaide last week in a game that saw the defending champs register just their second win for the season.

Central Coast aren’t in exactly the best form but have been playing well, however, go into this off the back of a 1-0 loss to the Phoenix but that might not be too bad.

WHAT’S HAPPENED?

Do not be fooled by their spot on the A-league table – Melbourne City aren’t going well.

While City are currently third on the table you have to put that in relative terms. Firstly, they are 14 points off leader’s Sydney FC; secondly they are nine points behind Derby rivals Victory; and finally they have just one win since winning the FFA Cup in November.

Make no mistake that City thanks to Tim Cahill, Bruno Fornaroli, Fernando Brandan and Luke Brattan, just to name a few, are a class team but their form has dipped from the glitz and glamour they put on show at the start of the season.

CLOSE BUT NOT CLOSE ENOUGH

Central Coast once again stretched a team the whole 90 minutes last week but as has been the case all too often this season, they left with nothing to show for it.

The defeat to the Phoenix was the Mariners seventh game without a win and their fifth loss in the last six games. On the positive though, Wellington then beat Melbourne Victory on Tuesday and ended their six-game winning run so the formline isn’t too bad is it?

Defensively Central Coast has struggled, just as they did last season, with an average of three goals conceded in their past six games and no clean sheets since Round 7.

HOW IT PANS OUT

These teams only met three weeks ago and Paul Okon’s side were unlucky not to have beaten City. Trailing 1-0 before scoring two second-half goals, the Mariners had them on toast until a late penalty saw the ledger squared.

Importantly that game was on the Central Coast whereas this time the match will be played at AAMI Park where City has picked up four wins and two draws from eight matches.

Recent history between the sides sees City with the advantage, having beaten the Mariners quite comfortably in three straight games prior to their last-start draw.

THE VERDICT

Whatever way you look at it both teams are going to be playing desperately for the points.

City have had a serious hangover since beating Sydney FC in the FFA Cup Final and have had a further blow with their coach quitting just a fortnight ago.

They definitely have the class to turn it on when needed but is their attitude starting to become an issue? Adelaide have been playing poorly yet still managed to come from behind to get the win.

One thing is almost assured and that is that Melbourne City will begin quickly. They have scored first in the majority of their games this season, however, Central Coast have a knack of hanging tough.

The Mariners definitely aren’t out of this one and if you fancy a bit of value then definitely take them or the draw, however, logic says that City at home will be too strong for the bottom-placed team.
