Port Adelaide Power v Essendon Bombers

Port and the Bombers could not have had more different fortunes in round two with the Power getting pantsed by arch-rivals Adelaide and doping suspension-hit Essendon proving a point to their critics with a gutsy victory over Melbourne. The Dons stuck to their task against the Dees, but will have to find another gear if they are to compete in Friday night’s prime time clash at the Portress. We think the Power will bounce back, and our money is on them to lead at the end of every quarter, which is paying $1.37 with Sportsbet. Get on in-form Bomber David Zaharakis to have 30 disposals or more ($2.90 with Sportsbet) – he had 33 in round one and 34 in round two.

St Kilda Saints v Collingwood Magpies

Under untold pressure after their horror round-one showing, Collingwood somehow conjured a last-gasp victory over Richmond in round two, and have a chance to consolidate the result when they take on St Kilda at the ‘G. The Saints, who showed so much improvement in the season’s opening round, did not fire a shot in a 57-point loss to the Bulldogs at the weekend in skipper Nick Riewoldt’s 300th game and we think Collingwood will get the job done on Saturday arvo. Go for the Pies to win ($1.43 with Luxbet) and young gun Darcy Moore to kick the first snagger, paying $10 with Sportsbet.

Richmond Tigers v Adelaide Crows

Richmond imploded in round two, and the bad news for Tigers fans is things do not get any easier this Saturday when a white-hot Adelaide head to Docklands. The Tigers need to do something more with the footy. Against Collingwood, they won the contested possessions, had a 37-24 advantage at the clearances, four more scoring shots and were plus nine on marks inside 50, but lost. Adelaide’s Tom Lynch, Eddie Betts and Josh Jenkins combined for 15 goals in a big win over the Power and our money is on the Crows to back it up this weekend. Go for Adelaide to win the match ($1.84 with Unibet) and the race to six goals ($1.95 with Hills and Centrebet).

Sydney Swans v Greater Western Sydney Giants

Sydney have started 2016 in typically ominous style with two big wins, but this game got a whole lot more interesting when the Giants upset Geelong at the weekend. The Swans have had a soft start to the season with clashes against Collingwood and Carlton, but cross-town rivals GWS proved they will be no pushovers when they surprised the Cats in Canberra. The Giants have lost tall defender Caleb Marchbank (ankle) for two months, which does not help and we think the Bloods will be too much for them at the SCG on Saturday. Go for a Swans/Swans half-time/full-time double, paying $173 with Sportsbet and Sydney’s Dan Hannebery to have 30 touches or more ($2 with Sportsbet).

Gold Coast Suns v Carlton Blues

It’s official – Gold Coast are back. After a 2015 season derailed by an injury crisis and off-field behavioural issues, the Suns look set to be a force this year and their mature 26-point victory over Fremantle at Subi in round two was a warning to the rest of the competition. They are unbeaten in two matches, and we think they will extend that streak when they take on winless Carlton on the Glitter Strip this Saturday night. The Suns have too many match-winners, with Gary Ablett, Jack Martin, Dion Prestia and Aaron Hall all impressive against the Dockers. We like the look of Gold Coast to lead at the end of every quarter, paying $1.77 with Sportsbet and Tom Lynch, who has helped himself to nine goals in the opening two rounds, to kick the first goal.

West Coast Eagles v Fremantle Dockers

The two WA clubs were among round two’s biggest disappointments. The Eagles did not turn up against Hawthorn on Sunday and again, have to contend with a six-day break but are expected to regain midfielder Chris Masten (ankle) at Subi this weekend. Meanwhile, if you thought Fremantle looked old and slow in their 26-point loss to Gold Coast in round two, that is probably because their list is quite old, and their players are very slow. We are backing the Eagles in a half-time/full-time double, paying $1.72 with Sportsbet. The Dockers leaked 103 points in round one and 126 against the Suns. We think Sportsbet’s $1.84 for the Eagles to kick more than 13.5 goals is great value.

North Melbourne Kangaroos v Melbourne Demons

Of course, no one should be surprised Melbourne were the first team to lose to Essendon this year. The Demons showed so much promise in a come-from-behind victory over GWS in their season opener but fell in a hole against the Bombers in round two. Speaking of holes, did you know that Sunday’s clash between North and the Dees will be played in Hobart? Anyway. The unbeaten Kangaroos will be too good at their adopted Tasmanian home of Bellerive, where their record is an imposing seven wins from nine matches. We like the look of a Roos-Roos half-time/full-time double, paying $1.57 with Sportsbet and one team to not reach 60 points ($2.35 with Hills and Centrebet) – the Dees are not the AFL’s highest-scoring team.

Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn Hawks

The Bulldogs have been ultra-impressive in the opening two weeks of the season but will face an acid test against Hawthorn this Sunday at Docklands. The three-times reigning premiers seemed to be written off by everyone except Oddschecker in round two and showed their class with a 46-point victory over the Eagles. Hopefully you took our advice and cashed in. This clash looms as the game of the round and we think the Bulldogs have the talent to get the job done. Back the Bullies with Centrebet, paying $2.30 and young gun Jake Stringer to kick the first goal. If he does, Sportsbet will give you $8.

Geelong Cats v Brisbane Lions

The good Lord only knows what happened to Geelong against the Giants in round two, but Sunday’s clash against Brisbane at the Cattery presents a perfect opportunity for them to bounce back. Like many teams this year, the Cats have played one very good game, and one shocker Beating the Lions at home is a non-negotiable. Winless Brissy have been brave against good opposition in the opening two rounds of the season, but skipper Tom Rockliff (calf), Daniel Rich (hamstring) and Mitch Robinson (calf) are all under an injury cloud. We reckon Geelong will be a class above, and are backing them to win by more than 53.5 points ($1.92 with Luxbet) and Patrick Dangerfield to have more than 35 disposals ($6.40 with Sportsbet).
