St Kilda v Collingwood

Collingwood have had a strange start to the season, getting embarrassed against Sydney and then winning in the dying seconds against Richmond (costing me two tips!). The pies have had the wool over the Saints in recent history, winning the past seven games.

St Kilda are unsurprisingly bottom of the ladder, and were shocking for Nick’s 300 game last weekend against the Bulldogs. They’ll need to improve greatly if they have any chance of getting close to the Pies. The Saints need to create more chances, they’ve recorded the lowest behinds and second lowest goals this season.

I can’t see the Saints managing to keep Treloar or Pendlebury quiet, Collingwood will miss Swann but will get the job done with ease at $1.61.

Richmond v Adelaide

The Crows landed me a decent punt last round when they beat Port, they’re a serious outfit and will make finals again this season. Adelaide lost their opening game to North but showed a lot, kicking 22 goals against Port is some effort. They’ve got plenty of blokes with the ball on a string, Lynch, Betts, Walker and Jenkins are all top grade kickers.
Richmomd have been pretty piss-poor this season, they only managed to account for Carlton in the opening fixture, and then got beaten by Collingwood last weekend. The Tigers were very sloppy last round in a game they should have won at a canter.

I can’t see Richmond being able to cope with Adelaide’s attack, they’re also missing a few key players. If the Tigers are too have any chance they need day outs for Martin and Cotchin in the middle. However, I’m backing Adelaide to take the spoils, their attack is far too good for this sloppy defence. Expect plenty of goals for the Crows.

My old mate Eddie Betts is always up and about early on, I’ve lost count the number of times he’s landed my a first goal scorer bet. Today, I’m going to stick with my man and get on him at $9.

West Coast v Fremantle

Fremanlte have been ordinary this season, many peoples pick to mount a real challenge for the flag. They’ve concede 229 points in the opening two rounds, which is heaps for ‘AFL’s best defence’. It’s not a disgrace to lose to Western Bulldogs but by 65 points is weak, if they want to be a real unit they can’t be losing to the Suns.

The Eagles were at their very best against Brisbane in the opening fixture, smashing them by over 60 points. However they were beaten by last years rivals Hawthorn in a game I expect them to come good in. There are some great match-ups to look forward to in this one, including Nic Nat v Sandilands and Fyfe v Priddis.

West Coast’s forwards could have a field day against the Freo defence, if the Dockers play anything like they have in the opening two round this could be a big victory for West Coast. They’re short at $1.31 but well worth putting in a multi.

As mentioned Priddis takes on Fyfe, Nat landed me a $6.5 tip last night when he faced off with Gary. However I’m backing the West Coast star to get the better of him tonight, Priddis will have the most disposals at $3.25

Sydney Swans v GWS

Sydney come into this fixture unbeaten after the opening two rounds, a young Swans team have recorded big wins against the Pies and Blues, and with Tippett and Franklin they’ve got enough fire power to beat any team in the league.

GWS went down against Melbourne but bounced back well against Geelong. I still don’t fancy the Giants chances this year, I feel they’re missing big players in crucial areas. However, their midfield has been one positive this season, Scully, Griffen and Greene were impressive against the Cats.

The Giants are missing Cameron still and will rely massively on Johnson to boot the points. With a lacking of kicking power in their ranks I find it very hard to see how they can trouble the Swans. The Swans will win this one with ease, they’ve got far too much with Tippett and Franklin.

Franklin will kick the most goals tonight, he’s comeback this season and looks like his old self. He’ll get plenty of chances in front of goal against the Giants, get on him at $1.57 to kick three or more.

North Melbourne v Melbourne

Possibly the easiest game of the weekend to call, North will walk this one. Melbourne got their fans believing after their first round win but were poor against Essendon last weekend. The Demons should have beaten a weak Essendon team, especially with the momentum from Round One.

North have been very impressive this year, all their big guns seem to be firing. They defeated Adelaide in the opening round before a 34 point win against Brisbane. They enter this fixture as favourites and quite rightly so, their forward line of Waite, Brown and Petrie are a handful for any team. North will get up against the Bombers, and I think by some distance. There is no value in the winning market but it’s worth a look at the handicaps, I’m going to go North by 25+ at $1.54.

Jarrad Waite is a gun, he’s kicked eight goals in the opening two fixtures and will add to this against a weaker Demons defence. It’s well worth backing the North superstar to kick four or more at $3.

Gold Coast v Carlton

The Suns remain unbeaten, which includes a huge win for them against the Dockers last weekend. Gold Coast are a different team when their main man Garry Ablett in their ranks. However, he wasn’t the main reason why they defeated Freo, Aaron Hall was the star of the show with help from Martin and Lynch.

My old boys have battled this season for no reward which is a worrying sign. I fear for Blues on the road, Dale Thomas has stood out for them in the opening rounds but they need more than one player to have a good game to win in this league. Gold Coast will win easily against the Blues, I’m getting on the Suns to win by 40+ at a handsome $2.1.

Gary Ablett didn’t have the best games against Freo but was still one of the best players on the park. He’ll be far too much for this Blues midfield, back him to not only have 30 disposals but kick three at $3.1

Western Bulldogs v Hawthorn

Hawthorn were written off after their opening defeat to Geelong but bounced back against the Eagles with some massive names missing. However, they’re a different outfit with Roughead and Hodge missing.
The Western Bulldogs have picked off where they left last season, they’ve now won eleven in the row at the Etihad. Bevo’s men look very impressive, they lead the table and also lead the way in terms of disposals and marks.

Normally I would side with Hawthorn but Bulldogs form is far too good to ignore and Hawks aren’t the same team with the key players missing. Get behind the Doggies for this one.

I’ve tried to hunt for some value in my player tip for this game, Grant Birchall to have the most possessions at $21. He’s averaged twenty six disposals this season, and hopefully he can have a day to remember for the Hawks this weekend.

Geelong v Brisbane Lions

I’m getting a bit sick of tipping my old teams to lose, but unfortunetly this is the case again, and it’s got the potential to be a huge loss. The Sunday twilight slot will hardly be a clash to remember, as I can’t see anything else but a one sided affair.

The Cats were disappointing last weekend after were being very impressive against Hawthorn. Dangerfield will play his ground debut and will look to bounce back after a poor display last round. Lions have had a tough start to the season, they’ve lost to the Eagles and North in the opening rounds. They’ve not been embarrassed but have still lost by hefty margins which is worrying for their fans. This will be another big defeat, get on Geelong to win by 60+ at $2.2

Dangerfield will want to get the home fans in the palm of his hand, after the opening round he had them purring, but let them down in Round Two. In front of a home crowd he’ll put on a display, get on him to have over 30 disposals at $1.56.
