Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers

All eyes are on the Sydney Showground for the opening match of long-awaited return of the Big Bash and the opening contest sees Sydney Thunder play host to city rivals Sydney Sixers. Thunder have been shocking in the Big Bash to date but have recruited in the off-season to push for finals and their squad is bolstered by new recruits Shane Watson, Andre Russell, Clint Mckay, Fawad Ahmed and Ben Rohrer. The Sixers have Nathan Lyon available along with new recruits Johan Botha and Jackson Bird.

The limited amount of T20 games played at the Showground Stadium suggest it could be a low scoring game, which will suit a Sixers outfit who seem to be top-heavy on bowlers, whilst Smith is on international duty.

However we’re backing the underdogs in this one, without Starc, Smith or Hazlewood we feel the $2.35 for Thunder offers really good value. We all know T20 cricket only needs one player to shine and Thunder have match winners in both batting (Blizzard, Hussey, Kallis, Watson, Russell) and bowling (Sandhu, Ahmed, Russell).

Sydney Thunder Top Batsman

Aiden Blizzard is expected to open the batting with Watson and offers real value to top score for the Thunder at $6.5. He was top runscorer for the Thunder last year, scoring 240 runs at an average of 60.
Aiden Blizzard - 1pt @ 6.5

Sydney Sixers Top Batsman

Nic Maddinson is our tip to top score for the Sixers at $4, his direct competition for the top scorer position Michael Lumb might need some time to settle into the competition after a shocking season in English T20 cricket.

Sydney Thunder Top Bowler

Fawad Ahmed proved tricky to get away in the handful of games he played for the Renegades last year, going for six an over in the seven games he played. He will play a crucial role for Thunder in the middle overs and will prove a tricky customer for the Sixers big hitters. We’re backing him at $4.5 to be Thunders top bowler.
