Perth start their Big Bash campaign against Strikers at the WACA.
The Scorchers begin their campaign in front of a sold-out crowd against the Strikers, who beat the Stars in their opening game. The Scorchers have lost just two of their last ten Big Bash fixtures at home, with the average first innings score being 162 in those ten matches. Perth have the reputation of defending any total they post with some skilful bowling . This year will be no different.
Perth have been bolstered with the selection of Australian stars Shaun Marsh, Adam Voges and Coulter-Nile. David Wiley is a great addition to an already strong bowling line up, which in the last six fixtures have only once failed to defend 150.
Adelaide come into the fixture with that shock victory under their belt and they’ll be brimming with confidence. Beating the Stars is one thing but to do it with Jayawardene not firing is even more encouraging.
These two teams have a history of producing some absolute belting games; Last year they won the first fixture by just one wicket and in the second they lost by just five runs chasing 203. I expect Perth to win at their fortress with their Australian talent on show.
Perth Scorchers - 1pt @ 1.57
Michael Carberry averaged 44 in last year’s competition scoring 266 runs in the process and he’ll be key for getting the innings off to a flyer. The Perth batting line up is packed with quality but the $6 on Carberry is too big to turn down. He will be coming into the competition with confidence after he scored 456 runs in the English T20 competition.
Michael Carberry - 1pt @ 6.00
David Wiley is a great addition to the Perth squad. The all rounder can give the ball a belt but he’s also built a reputation of being a talented bowler at the death. He took 15 wickets at an economy of 7.08 in the UK T20 competition. On a pitch which normally suits pace bowlers, we’re backing the Englishman to be the leading wicket taker for Perth at $4.
David Wiley - 1pt @ 4.00
Tim Ludeman looked in decent touch in the first game against the Stars as he belted two sixes before he fell on just 18. We fancy him to get the Strikers off to a flyer in their innings with the fielding restrictions. We’re backing him to top score for the Strikers at $4.5
