Perth’s last 11 home games have had Over 2.5 goals, as have eight of Sydney’s last 10 on the road.
Perth are in dire form so far this season having lost four of their opening five and are clearly feeling the effects of their salary cap violation last season that has resulted a number of their stars leaving the club. Sydney, meanwhile, are once again contesting for honours at the top of the table though a defeat at home to the Victory last week means that they have slipped to second.
Though they’ve struggled this season, Perth have certainly been an entertaining side at home in recent times with their last 11 all seeing more than two goals, seven having more than three strikes, and both teams finding the net in 10 of these games. Their home record against top-four finishers last season was W0-D1-L3, with all four of these games again having at least three goals including a 3-3 thriller against the Victory. Zadkovich, Djulbic, Harold, and Oxborrow are all close to a return to fitness but Fernandes is a concern for this game and his absence would be a major blow to their attack.
Whilst Sydney’s PPG at home since the start of last season is a modest 1.24 their away record in that time is a remarkable W12-D4-L0 to give a PPG of 2.5 and they’ve now won their last 10 on the road. Only four of these wins on the current streak were without conceding as eight of the 10 games had more than two goals and half had at least four strikes. Against bottom-half finishers last season their record was W6-D2-L0 and they’ve also beaten last season’s 8th and 10th at home this term but, again, kept only four clean sheets in these 10 matches. Abbas is a long term absentee for Sydney whilst Holosko is also a slight doubt for this game.
Given Sydney’s excellent away record and Perth’s struggles this season, we wouldn’t put anyone off backing last season’s runners-up at odds against, but the best value looks to lie in the goals market. Perth’s last 11 home games have had Over 2.5 goals as have eight of Sydney’s last 10 on the road and we’re backing this to be another high scoring game at the nib Stadium.
