It's a cracking Saturday of racing action and Tom Gilmore is on hand with all the best bets.
Flemington R1 No.1 - ALL CERISE
She is flying this mare (won her last three) and is three weeks between runs which at this point of her campaign really wont hurt. Led all the way here on the 30th and really kicked clear at the 400m mark, she again finds a small field with not a a huge amount of tempo on paper. Rolls to the front and should be mighty hard to catch, sticks with 58kgs which is a major plus.
All Cerise - 1pt @ 3.2
Flemington R3 No.9 - ESTAMINET
This mare flew fresh at Moonee Valley over the 955m three weeks ago, rolled to sit leaders girth and just burst clear over the final 150m. They ran good time relative for a soft track which shows the race rated ok, 1000m wont hurt and she's draw out which down the straight usually suits. Gets in on the minimum and should strip fitter, nice horse!
Estaminet - 1pt e/w @ 2.05
Flemington R6 No.4 - PALENTINO
Basically went to the line hard held first-up at Caulfield in the Manfred over 1200m, never got a look at them and probably should have won. Last time at the 1400m here at Flemington had little luck and still put a very good field to the sword, he's a much more mature horse this time in and from the friendly draw he'll have plenty of chances to balance up outside them upon straightening. Can run the splits to beat a very good field, confident gets the job done today.
Palentino - 1pt @ 4.0
Flemington R7 No.1 - CHAUTAUQUA
The king of Australian sprinting at the moment makes his long awaited return here this afternoon, recent jumpouts have been terrific (no shock) and he looks in for his best prep to date. Flies over the 1000m down the straight and had plenty of excuses over 1200m when just touched out in the Darley Classic last spring (worst part of track etc.). He'll just sit in behind them and look to launch from the 400m mark, should be winning. Level weights/WFA suits.
Chautauqua - 1pt @ 2.5
Rosehill R4 No.3 - DEFCON
Lovely horse this who did so much wrong on debut at Rosehill, got fizzed up pre-race and basicallt worked himself into a muck lather. Half-missed the kick, was keen/pulled throughout and yet still had the audacity to run a huge splits between the 600m and the 200m, just tired late (understandably) to miss by a length. If he has learnt from that he'll be mighty hard to beat.
Defcon - 1pt @ 3.7
Rosehill R7 No.1 - PRESS STATEMENT
A high-class G1 winner returning and its great to see him back. Caulfield Guineas winner in the spring and was unlucky not to finish closer to Exosphere (best 3yo in AUS) in G1 Golden Rose over 1400m. His two recent trials, while quiet, have been good. He looks a terrific play in the race at the weights, should be giving 4kg to nearest rival instead level weights. Will stay out of trouble early and be strong over the top late.
Press Statement - 1pt @ 2.5
Doomben R4 No.6 - SHEISWHATSHEIS
Been spacing her runs of late, she was excellent at Doomben four weeks ago over the 1200m at Stakes level. Led them up at a genuine gallop but was just nabbed late by the swoopers (her run was v. pattern of the race). There doesnt look anywhere near the quality of that in this and she should get a better time of it mid-race which will prove vital late. Should be winning and is a clear best of the day at Doomben.
Sheiswhatsheis - 1pt @ 2.25
Morphettville R2 No.4 - BATTLE BREWING
Just smacked them over the 1200m here two weeks ago, never looked like losing at any point and really ran through the line with some authority. Third-up/at his peak and gets to probably what will be a more suitable trip and key factors at play. Will again stalk the speed and be rattling home down the centre of the track late. They ran time not far off the older horses later in the day.
Battle Brewing - 1pt @ 3.5
