Donald R3 No.3 - CRYSTAL PISTOL

Debut was good at Colac but was quite impressed with his second-up performance at Warrnambool over the 1100m. Made good ground from the awkward inside draw and form coming out of that race has been quite strong (runner-up will make a metro class horse). Fancy 1200m wont be any sort of issue and he can take closer order from the friendly marble. No real stars in this lot.

Donald R6 No.5 - KALKIDAN

His effort two starts back at Mildura was very good in a race that rated well in this grade, winner is smart (should have won again yesterday) and a similar performance will have him going close. Effort at Echuca a week ago was pleasing when he was handy to a good tempo, 1st/2nd made ground from the rear of the field so his run against the pattern of the race was strong. Gets all the favours today and must win!

Orange R1 No.3 - TO EXCESS

Promising 2yo who debuted back in January and wasnt far off Golden Slipper competitive Scarlet Rain, was a bog track that day and not sure it really suited. Since given time to get over that and recent trial 29/3 over 800m at Newcastle suggests he's going well. Has the talent to beat this lot and turn into a nice off-season galloper that might be worth following.

Rockhampton R4 No.6 - MISS GRANGER

First start for Ben Currie after an up and down career to date in NSW but he does have some talent, has never really been far away from some nice style of horses but always found one or two better. This race is very poor and he does go well fresh, blinkers go on again so with no weight on his back over the 1050m they'll be positive out of the gate and be very hard to run down.

Cranbourne R4 No.3 - LAKE JACKSON

He made big ground fresh at Sandown two weeks ago over 1200m in a race that rated well on the day, didnt really suit those getting too far out of their ground so his effort was good. Fancy he's taken great benefit from that run and major plus getting to 1400m. Has been on the heels of better horses than this in his career to date despite having plenty of chances, gets a charmed run on the map and should have no excuse!
Lake Jackson - 1pt @ 3.20

Cranbourne R8 No.8 - KISS IN THE RAIN

Been favourite in his two return runs to date, fresh he was excellent at Warrnambool over the 1000m before being somewhat flat (with excuses) two weeks later at Tatura. Was out the gate in betting which is a fair indicator that not everything was cherry ripe. Keen he bounces back tonight, gets a good run from the draw and can be tractable early (pattern should suit those handier to the early speed). Has looked like a horse that will relish six furlongs, looks hard to beat in my eyes.
