The Autumn Carnival may be over, but the fields are still pretty classy at Rosehill this Saturday!
The Sydney Autumn Carnival has wound up but there is a still a quality nine race card set down for Rosehill this Saturday. The weather is fine, the track is a good four and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
QUADDIES (Races: 6-7-8-9)
SKINNY PLAY: 1,6,10 / 2,9 / 7,11 / 10
WIDE PLAY: 1,4,6,7,8,10 / 2,5,6,8,9,14 / 1,2,6,7,11,13,17 / 2,3,5,10
R1 12.00pm HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP 1200m
WUDANG MOUNTAIN is first up and has won first up in the past. He has also won at the track which is a big advantage and Hugh Bowman takes the ride. While bred to want further than 1200m, this colt can play a part fresh.
SIR BACCHUS is another of the Chris Waller contenders in the race. He has placed before when racing first up and has also won at the distance.
DARK STEEL is the best bred galloper in the race and has shown us that he has plenty of potential. However, potential doesn’t win races and he’s starting to prove frustrating for punters. He drops back in class and distance here and should be suited in this field. From barrier 3, he should get all the favours required to play a part in this race.
SELECTIONS: No3 REINCARNATE, No2 Wudang Mountain, No4 Sir Bacchus, No6 Dark Steel
VALUE RUNNER: No2 Wudang Mountain

R2 12.35pm PLUCK @ VINERY HANDICAP 1100m
MOOSHAKISSA struggled in the soft going first up when contesting the Kindergarten Stakes. On track rated good, we should see sharp improvement. Her form from last campaign would suggest that she could win this race.
IMPENDING has had one trial and was narrowly beaten by a Lubiton and subsequent G1 Champagne placegetter Divine Prophet. He was held together and looked good. Natural improvement from that run could also see him play a part on debut.
AVIATOR returns from a short break after a debut win at this course and distance in February. The colt will have derived plenty of improvement from the run and warrants respect in this line up.
SYLPHEED was unwanted in betting when debuting at Wyong, but she showed a lot of class and a strong turn of foot in that performance. She ran clear on that occasion and proved too good. With natural improvement, she’s another that has shown us she’s good enough to win an even race like this.
SELECTIONS: No7 GRETNA, No3 Mooshakissa, No4 Impending, No1 Aviator
VALUE RUNNER: No10 Sylpheed
R3 13.10pm JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM HANDICAP 2400m
RHODIN DRIVE showed last start that he is up for the fight. It was an impressive win and James McDonald staying on is a big positive. Although being worse in the weights, he showed characteristics that make you happy to stay with his winning form.
MR STEAL showed his courage last start, winning the Orange Cup with a brave performance. He carried 60kg to win on that day, so the weight here will be no issue. He doesn’t have a great record at the track, but he’ll lead this race comfortably and give the field something to chase.
HE'S DREAMIN' continued his strong form with another place. He finished behind Rhodin Drive and has his chance here to turn the tables. The biggest concern is that he has placed 24 times and has only won on eight occasions.
SELECTIONS: No4 MURPHY’S DELIGHT, No5 Rhodin Drive, No1 Mr Steal, No3 He’s Dreamin’
VALUE RUNNER: No3 He’s Dreamin’
R4 1.45pm TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP 1500m
JUNGLE caught the eye of punters last start with a strong finish over 1400m. The extra 100m should suit and his recent strong form should make him competitive.
CARIBBEAN CONCERT will be hoping that the speed is as strong as it appears. If it is then she can run on strongly and cause an upset.
BALAMETALICA won first up after getting the run of the race and was then fair last start when fifth to Grand Proposal in the Highway. Sam Clipperton takes the ride and, with the low weight, he’s an each-way hope.
SELECTIONS: No1 GALAXY WARRIOR, No2 Oh So Unfair, No7 Jungle, No11 Caribbean Concert
VALUE RUNNER: No10 Balametalica
R5 2.20pm SCWEPPES HANDICAP 1500m
CHANDANA shapes as an excellent each-way play in the race. The daughter of High Chaparral drops in grade after running fifth in the South Pacific Classic. She was asked to do too much last start, but this race appears more suitable. She’ll be able to sit closer and Hugh Bowman takes the ride.
IMPOSING LASS is another filly on the up. She has had three starts for two victories and a second and has shown her class in all conditions. She should take a lot of improvement from her first run over 1400m and they’ll need to be on their game to catch her.
MONTAUK steps back in grade after running in the Carbine Club at Randwick last start. He was only fair on that occasion, but conditions look more suitable here.
SELECTIONS: No9 FALKENBERG, No8 Chandana, No10 Imposing Lass, No4 Montauk
VALUE RUNNER: No4 Montauk
R6 2.55pm TAB MORE THAN JUST WINNING HANDICAP 1400m
SORT AFTER steps up in grade after a strong win over 1300m at Newcastle. It was an encouraging effort and one she will no doubt take benefit from. She is drawn to receive all of the favours in transit up on the speed and can continue her progression through the grades.
TREMEZZINA backs up after a respectable effort at Randwick in the J B Carr Stakes over this distance. This is easier and the filly has worked into her latest preparation nicely. The only negative is the tricky barrier.
SWEET KISS bolted clear over this trip at Warwick Farm last Wednesday and just felt the pinch late when running fourth to Something Secret. She’ll lead this race comfortably again and if she gets some luck, she could steal this race at a nice price.
SELECTIONS: No1 UNEQUIVOCAL, No10 Sort After, No6 Tremezzina, No3 Sweet Kiss
VALUE RUNNER: No1 Unequivocal
R7 3.35pm BOWERMANS OFFICE FURNITURE HANDICAP 1500m
HIGH MIDNIGHT has been freshened since a first up win at this course over 1350m. The son of High Chaparral should appreciate getting out to 1500m on his way to a mile and beyond. He has a good second up record, not finishing worse than second from this two attempts and is drawn well in barrier one.
FAROLITOS has a sensational second up record and will be hoping to add to that here. The four-year-old gelding has won two from three when second up and won his only race at the distance.
HOLLYWOOD BOUND comes back to Sydney after a two-run stint in Melbourne, which didn’t really prove to be successful at all. Although drawn wide, he has won at the track and distance and will appreciate the early speed.
SELECTIONS: No9 HIS MAJESTY, No2 High Midnight, No8 Farolitos, No5 Hollywood Bound
VALUE RUNNER: No5 Hollywood Bound
R8 4.15pm MCGRATH ESTATE AGENTS HANDICAP 1350m
WELL HARDLEY EVER has kicked off his latest preparation in good order and was a last start winner at Warwick Farm. He is open to further improvement third up and is drawn to receive all of the favours in transit from barrier two. His only attempt at the distance saw him prove too good.
ROCKOLICIOUS looks ready to improve. Her runs this campaign have been good and she has won third up in the past. She has to carry 61kg which is a negative, but Hugh Bowman takes the ride which is always a big point of interest.
PAINTE has had 12 career starts and has finished inside the top three on 10 of those occasions. The four-year-old has placed at the distance and will run an honest race.
THE RUMOUR FILE looks set to improve. Chris Waller has an amazing ability to find lengths of improvement for an import’s second preparation and if that does occur, then he may be worth a small each-way bet.
SELECTIONS: No7 HETTY HEIGHTS, No11 Well Hardley Ever, No2 Rockolicious, No6 Painte
VALUE RUNNER: No17 The Rumour File
R9 4.55pm TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP 1100m
PRINCEFAMOUS is undefeated when first up and is undefeated at the track and distance. He has a tricky barrier to contend with, but the statistics make him appear to be a good each-way chance in the race.
FIFTYSHADESOFGREY had no luck last start. She was drawn wide and forced to go back which didn’t suit. However, she attacked the line well and she has since trialled well. The bigger track should suit and she will appreciate the speed in the race.
ALART ran on well last start and had nice closing sectionals. With the early speed that is predicted, she will be another running on strongly.
SELECTIONS: No10 MOGADOR, No2 Princefamous, No5 Fiftyshadesofgrey, No3 Alart
VALUE RUNNER: No5 Fiftyshadesofgrey
