R1 - Phoenix Stakes

NO 1 ARCHIVES was very good winning last start and gave every indication that 1400m around Eagle Farm would be ideal. Godolphin has not had a lot of luck in a few races this carnival and is overdue for a bit of the Irish green. It could be their day.

NO 3 JERICHO was unlucky last time behind ARCHIVES but has again drawn a very poor barrier. The big question is whether being drawn wide might actually be an advantage until this track settles down. They are both nice horses and should go on to win better races.

NO 6 CHARNLEY RIVER was beaten at long odds on at his last start by a horse which had not run a place in any previous runs. But he is much better than that and he wasn't really suited by the way the race was run. On his previous form he deserves to be given a chance here.

NO 7 REAL CLASSIC was a bit disappointing last time but he did get a long way back and then had no luck in getting a clear run in the straight. He should be suited over 1400m and has the services of international star Hugh Bowman. It would surprise if he didn't go better here.

SELECTIONS: NO1 ARCHIVES, NO3 JERICHO, NO6 CHARNLEY RIVER, NO7 REAL CLASSIC.

VALUE RUNNER: NO7 REAL CLASSIC.

R2 - Lightning Stakes

NO 6 JENNYFROMTHEBLOCK is a real speed machine and she will probably lead from here. Don't worry about the apprentice jockey as he has won five races on her. The only problem could be her first go on a clockwise track. She is enormous odds for a horse with so much pace.

NO 1 INTO THE RED has had his injury problems but he is the class runner of the field. A big weight and the outside barrier look to have given him a major task. But the prediction of rain will help him if it comes.

NO 2 BEAU RADA has good enough Victorian form to trouble this field. He is ideally drawn and Chris Symons has come a long way to ride him.

NO 4 FELINES has run some nice races in similar type company and is one of the few chances well drawn. She should get a nice run just off the pace. It is a race where there should be plenty of value.

SELECTIONS: NO 6 JENNYFROMTHEBLOCK, NO 1 INTO THE RED, NO 2 BEAU RADA, NO 4 FELINES.

VALUE RUNNER: NO 6 JENNYFROMTHEBLOCK.
NO 6 JENNYFROMTHEBLOCK - 1pt @ 41.00

R3 - Eagle Farm Cup

Not the strongest weight for age race to be run in Australia this year. In fact there are probably only two horses with any claims to being genuine weight for age material.

NO 5 VOLKSTOK'N'BARRELL has been handy without being outstanding in his Hollindale Cup third and then Doomben Cup fourth this winter. A Rosehill Guineas winner he does look too good for these, although 2200m is probably as far as he wants to go.

NO 2 PUCCINI won a New Zealand Derby and was much better last start when second after leading. He will probably lead again here and he does look the other class runner.

NO 4 MAURUS was very good in the Doomben Cup and looked the winner at one stage. He is probably a season away from being a genuine weight for age horse but this isn't strong.

NO 1 MIGHTY LUCKY was a good winner at 1600m last start and he is one of the most honest horses around. The question is the distance at weight for age.

SELECTIONS: NO5 VOLKSTOK'N'BARRELL, NO2 PUCCINI, NO4 MAURUS, NO1 MIGHTY LUCKY.

VALUE RUNNER: NO1 MIGHTY LUCKY.
NO 5 VOLKSTOK'N'BARRELL - 1pt @ 2.7

R4 - Daybreak Lover Plate (3YO)

NO 9 THE VIRGINIAN is a very good horse in the making. He has won a couple of easier races and this is his test.

NO 6 PERFECT DARE worked very well this week and will be hard to beat if the track is dry.

NO 11 SOLD FOR SONG had no luck last start and her previous second was one of the runs of the year. She just needs to get clear in the straight.

NO 12 KIMBERLEY STAR has raced very well in handy company. She has some pace and with a top jockey on board should get the run of the race.

SELECTIONS: NO9 THE VIRGINIAN, NO6 PERFECT DARE, NO11 SOLD FOR SONG.

VALUE RUNNER: NO12 KIMBERLEY STAR.
NO 9 THE VIRGINIAN - 1pt @ 6.5

R5 - Juanmo Stakes

The weather will play a major role here in determining the favourite and the winner.

NO 8 ECHO GAL is dropping back in class here and she is drawn to go forward and be in the finish. She has a stack of speed and there doesn't look to be too many in the field who can go with her.

NO 7 TINA MELINA is a horse which should have a warning sign that she is a danger to punters' pockets. But on her day from barrier one she would be very hard to beat. The big danger is she will be slow to begin and get caught in a traffic jam in the straight. But she can win if things go right.

NO 6 ALUCINARI got a long way back at Scone but did she hit the line! This is probably tougher but not much tougher.

NO 10 MISS TENPINS continues to race well and the stable is in form. Another with an each way ticket.

NO 5 MADOTTI is a class galloper and is always a chance against this company. She has had a couple of setbacks of late but she is a stakes horse if ever there was one. If it rains she won't start.

SELECTIONS: NO8 ECHO GAL, NO7 TINA MELINA, NO6 ALUCINARI, NO10 MISS TENPINS.

VALUE RUNNER: NO5 MADOTTI.
NO 8 ECHO GAL - 1pt @ 15.00

R6 - QTC Cup

This race was designed back in 1979 to be a major lead up to the Group One Stradbroke Hcp a week later. But no horse has won both races in the one year and only a handful of winners have been placed in the Stradbroke. The result is, in recent years, it has become a race for genuine Group Two horses who are on their way to something a bit easier than a Stradbroke.

NO 2 SACRED STAR fits that bill and he was ordinary in the BTC Cup at his last start. But he looked like the run would do him good and he did win this race two years ago. If anywhere near his best, he would win this.

NO 3 TARGET IN SIGHT was good in the BTC Cup and is not harshly treated here at the weights. He has a nice draw and a top jockey so he does look a strong each way chance. The Joe Pride stable quinellaed the race last year.

NO 6 KAEPERNICK has always had a wrap on him but does get a long way back. He should be suited, this trackless horse.

NO 4 SNIPPETS LAND has a strong finish and has bloomed in the winter here. The Snowden stable has to be respected, no matter what race.

NO 5 STEEL ZIP is old enough to vote but he has trialled very well for his comeback. Loves it when the pace is on and he has the rails. Gets in very well at the weights for a horse that has won over $800,000. Will be huge odds but a rough hope.

NO 7 PERFECT FIT is the interesting runner. In good kiwi form but hasn't raced for 8 weeks.

SELECTIONS: NO2 SACRED STAR, NO3 TARGET IN SIGHT, NO6 KAEPERNICK, NO4 SNIPPETS LAND.

VALUE RUNNER: NO5 STEEL ZIP.
NO 2 SACRED STAR - 1pt @ 26.00

R7 - Queensland Oaks

A capacity field over the 2400m and one of the most even Oaks on record.

NO 4 IMPOSING LASS has been most consistent and there were excuses for her defeat last time when trapped deep. She is bred to run 2400m and has the ability to sit up on the pace. She looks a good each way bet here.

NO 10 DAWNIE PERFECT is the daughter of a Queensland Oaks winner and her racing style indicates she will stay. The outside barrier should not be a worry with her racing style and on this bigger track. Look for her to be charging home late.

NO 15 ROMANTIC MAID is an inexperienced filly but she has a heap of potential. She has been taken along nicely for this and her work on Tuesday morning was very good.

NO 3 KEBEDE is a most promising horse and a good winner in The Roses last start. She is drawn to get the run of the race with the stable's only concern being a wet track. The Roses form is usually solid for the Oaks.

NO 6 SEBRING SALLY turned in an enormous run when second in The Roses. But she is again drawn out in the car park and her racing style could see her caught deep. But, if she gets cover and a little bit of luck, there is no reason she shouldn't be in the finish.

NO 8 ALASKAN ROSE never has any luck but she showed in Sydney she is up to a race like this. Many good judges think she should have won two of her past three starts. But she is one of those horses who always seem to strike trouble.

SELECTIONS: NO4 IMPOSING LASS, NO10 DAWNIE PERFECT, NO15 ROMANTIC MAID, NO3 KEBEDE.

VALUE RUNNER: NO6 SEBRING SALLY.
NO 4 IMPOSING LASS - 1pt @ 8.00

R8 - Spear Chief Handicap

NO 2 RELIGIFY was very good last time after being softened up in the lead. He is drawn to lead again and at least should be out of trouble in this big field.

NO 5 BEWHATYOUWANNABE loves this distance range and he is also drawn well enough to be out of trouble. He is a stakes winner and should race well here.

NO 6 FEDERAL is yet another good horse from the Godolphin stable and he is well placed against this field.

NO 1 HI WORLD has the in-form Freedman-McEvoy trainer jockey-combo and has to be respected.

NO 13 TAN TAT DIAMOND did trial well before his last start failure where he had no luck. He will be very big odds but has claims. However, there are probably a dozen horses who at least could be given a hope.

SELECTIONS: NO2 RELIGIFY, NO5 BEWHATYOUWANNABE, NO6 FEDERAL, NO1 HI WORLD.

VALUE RUNNER: NO13 TAN TAT DIAMOND.
NO 2 RELIGIFY - 1pt @ 9.00
