Tom Gilmore's best bets for Canterbury and Sale today.
Sale R2 No.12 - STRANGEST DREAM
This filly should have won when returning fresh here two weeks ago, was posted deep/working throughout and yet still found the line like a good horse (and winner looks promising!). Could be ridden a touch colder from the outside draw, just needs to follow a backside into the race and she'll be motoring home over the top late. Can run a very slick L400m split and go onto better things.
Strangest Dream - 1pt @ 3.50
Sale R4 No.1 - STRIKE FORCE
Thought he went super second-up at Bendigo when having the better of a really smart one in Battlecamp (who went huge Saturday-grade just gone). Will be further improved getting to 1400m and does map to again go forward, does relish the sting out so no concerns there - ticks plenty of boxes!
Strike Force - 1pt @ 4.80
Sale R5 No.2 - STEP THE PEDAL
Closed well in a leader-dominated race on a night when it was very difficult to make ground at Cranbourne 12 days ago, dare say this point of her prep she'll appreciate getting to 1400m and the big track here at Sale will certainly suit, gets through heavy tracks with no problem and speed on paper should give her every chance to be strong late.
Step The Pedal - 1pt @ 2.70
Sale R7 No.10 - LANDSLIDE
Horse is flying and was only nabbed late here at Sale two weeks ago over the 1700m. Did all the work on-speed and actually had to spend a few more tickets early then I think was hoped. Tempo doesn't look overly hot on paper and he's shown he can get through genuinely heavy-going (Warrnambool winner). Drops 1.5kgs for that recent outing and gains the services of M.Dee
Landslide - 1pt @ 2.60
Canterbury R3 No.4 - DINGHU MOUNTAIN (x2 NAP)
Thought he is clearly the one to beat here off the back of a very good run fresh at Randwick three weeks ago over an unsuitable 1100m, leader basically went all the way so his effort to make ground against the race pattern was good. Will further improve to 1250m, maps for the PR of the race and gets through a shifting surface. Ticks all the boxes and really should get the job done.
Dinghu Mountain - 2pt @ 2.10
Canterbury R4 No.4 - TOO CHIC (each-way)
Going to throw this girl on top at a price, he's got the right credentials coming into a race like this and do like the way he jumped from a mile to 2000m at Hawkesbury a month ago - he's had the all important tough run at the trip so he'll take great benefit from that and does get in well relative weights with the 3kg claim from B.McDougall. Has proven himself entirely adept on soft ground, too. Should get a lovely run in the box seat and we do know he'll be strong through the line.
Too CHic - 0.5pt e/w @ 10.00
