Sandown R1 No.4 - ROYAL SHAME

Thought he went really well fresh down at Geelong in a race that rated well on the day (winner since started/failed good race at Moonee Valley), interesting they kicked him off at 1300m fresh so keen he takes good improvement from the outing and think the wide draw here suits him (no speed in the race). Pattern should favour those handy to the pace early and he should be able to roll across quite comfortably. If they keep a genuine tempo mid-race he can suck the sprint out of key rivals and pinch too much of a break.

Best Bet: Sandown R5 No.3 - SHILLELAGH

Lightly raced-mare who's made the trek over from New Zealand, she's got genuine talent. Is first-up for three months but her best form is certainly good enough for this (flies fresh), had a jump-out at Flemington 19/8 over 800m and went around under a total stranglehold. It was a slick heat and she clearly had the better of the likes of Tarquin (Group performed). Suggest with D.Oliver on/fresh she'll box-seat in the small field and basically be too good. Has good upside v. some average mares.

Sandown R6 No.2 - LUCKY LIBERTY

Super talented galloper resuming from injury, we haven't seen him at the races since the Autumn of 2015. His debut prep resulted in three wins on the trot (all rated above average), before he stepped into town which ultimately culminated in a start in the G1 Australian Guineas (enormous). He did fail/but forgiving, had bone chips removed and has since spent time recuperating (had setbacks). Liked his work at Caulfield 30/8 over 800m in a slick jump-out, he settled well early and really responded to riding when asked to improve. Think he's come back to racing in fine shape and can run a bottler fresh!

Roughie: Sandown R8 No.8 - FABULONH

Was 1200m back to 1100m at Geelong three weeks ago in a slick race and I thought considering he was ridden a touch upside-down he went nicely, took a sit three-pairs back and gave me the impression they're trying to teach him to settle in order to finish off at the end of seven furlongs (finds that trip today). Draws well out in gate 11 (late in the day wide marbles should suit) and he's better on top of the ground. Only the one go at 1400m and he romped in on that occasion at Ballarat.

Next Best: Canterbury R2 No.4 - WINE BUSH

Thought the way she ran through the line fresh on a bog track at Warwick Farm two weeks ago over the 1300m was excellent, she'd only had the two soft trials leading into that return and she was easy in the betting (not screwed down). She takes enormous physical benefit for the outing and is a better horse back on top of the ground. Appears to get the right sort of run on the map (rail out +6m should favour those swooping) and 1550m will suit. Like her at the price!

Canterbury R3 No.4 - ROSA CAROLINA

Promising kiwi who's Australian debut, despite not running slick time, was good. She bounced straight on the bunny, settled, and kicked clear at the top of the straight to score eased down. She'd only had the one trial leading in/has bigger goals, so anticipate she takes good benefit from the outing and better suited to 1200m. Expect her to possibly take a sit/leaders girth today, certainly better horse to six furlongs (1.6 lengths off them G2 Breeders Stakes only go at the trip) and like B.Avdulla sticks.

Canterbury R5 No.1 - UNTAMED DIAMOND

Was first-up for two months here three weeks ago over the 1100m and went like a rocket, jumped straight on the bunny and at no staged looked troubled (runner-up since super v.pattern in strong race). Think she gets in nicely relative weights thanks to the 3kg claim from D.Panya and the wide draw means she can find her way across to the fence quite comfortably, theres is good speed to her inside but think she can cross. Clearly an improver into today and like they stick at the 1100m. Fancy she's got more in store this preparation.
