Was crossed by a 100-1 pop from the inside marble two weeks ago here over the 1200m, and as a result never really got a crack at them. Basically went to the line untested but still managed to run well, he looks like a horse thats now ready for the progression to 1300m, tempo of the race looks lacking so expect him to find the front quite comfortably with winkers going back on. Comes out of a really hot maiden at Bendigo a month ago, a repeat effort of that rates far superior to these.
Went well when first-up since January when returning here two weeks ago over the 1400m, he just went evenly to the line and didn't really 'sprint' home, looks like a horse that clearly needs further (steps to the mile here) and he does map for the PR of the race in transit (box-seat). Blinkers go on for the first-time today (good sign of intent) and he did trial nicely on a bottomless Cranbourne before resuming, so heavy track shouldn't pose an issue. Good benefit from that recent outing and hard to beat.
Mare was seven weeks between runs when winning here two weeks ago over the 1200m, had the right run in transit and really just put them away with ease. Time was quite good considering other 1200m event was R3 on the card (track deteriorated throughout the day) and if you peel that back a length or two than her time overall was smart! Think the 1300m won't pose any issues and the way she races drawing out allows her to wind-up, if she can find a tow into the race she'll be strong late!
Really game effort on-speed when resuming at Donald two weeks ago over the 1350m, only had the one trial leading in (1000m) so to roll to the front/kick off good early tempo and only be nabbed late was impressive. He certainly strips fitter and looks suited to 1400m, like the wide draw for him, too. He'll find his way to the front and if he can get a cheap mid-race sectional, he'll up the tempo from the 600m and take plenty of catching. Pattern slight query? But if allows on-pacers, he's right in it.
Two runs since returning from a break have both been good, thought she improved second-up (pro-ride to turf) at Wangaratta a month ago, which is a tough thing to do. Fitness just appeared to tell late, and winner has since gone on to go down narrowly (forms ok). Like the wide draw and third-up the fact they stick at the 1100m. She's close to her top and should be winning this.
