Pakenham R1 No.8 - DIAMOND GRACE

Usually not big on turf to synthetic, but gee in whats a very low race I'd be fairly surprised if this mare doesn't measure up. Thought she was fairly good on debut at Cranbourne over a mile two weeks ago when easy in the betting, she got back worse than midfield and forced to sustain an 800m when looking to improve. Pattern favoured those handy at the bend so considering she flattened out well late was impressive. Clearly better suited out to 2000m and that rating on debut would be good enough to win here. Runner-up from that event since won in dominant style (forms good!).

Best Bet: Pakenham R2 No.8 - SHERPA TRAIL

Month between runs for this colt but his latest effort at Sale over 1200m was very impressive, jumped well/found the front and rolled along at a good clip before just being found out late. Not sure he was in the 'A' ground on that occasion so merit to the performance (1st has since won again, and 5th looks a serious horse). Like they've also kept him fresh and big tick with D.Oliver taking the ride. He should find the front quite comfortably and the way the tracks been playing of late thats no negative! Keen he can control the race and take plenty of running down.

Best Roughie: Pakenham R4 No.4 - THE BLONDE ALIBI

Think she's got a fitness edge on some key rivals and her liking for the synthetic is a major positive, went well in similar grade three weeks ago at Geelong over the 1200m when just finding one or two a bit sharp. Today I do like the return to 1000m and the wide draw, if they're positive early she can sit OSL and turn it into a genuine test - runs under the belt should have her had to catch. Has run time that can have her fairly competitive here on ratings - come up overs!

Pakenham R6 No.9 - FABULONH

Was 1200m back to 1100m at Geelong a month ago in a slick race and I thought considering he was ridden a touch upside-down he went nicely, took a sit three-pairs back and gave me the impression they're trying to teach him to settle in order to finish off at the end of seven furlongs (finds that trip today). Draws well out in gate 13 (wide marbles should suit him rolling forward) and he's better on top of the ground. Only the one crack at 1300m and he just missed when making ground v. pattern at Warrnambool. Caulfield horses usually handle the synthetic (first-time).

Pakenham R8 No.3 - AVENUE WHISPER

Genuine city-class mare who strikes very favourable conditions today on the pro-ride (likes firm!), no concern the four weeks between runs, latest effort at Bendigo over 1300m (back from mile/stakes company) was good under the circumstances, wasn't far away from the winners but she looked like she needed the run. Best win/effort to date was over the 1400m at Cranbourne when she led/dominated the race (yes to a drop in trip!), would like to see her sit OSL and be just simply too good.
