Tom Gilmore's got six tips for today's racing from Bendigo and Gosford.
Best Bet :Bendigo R1 No.11 - EXCLAMATION
Comes out of the right sort of race at Mornington two weeks ago when only nabbed late by the promising Natch, he set a good gallop in transit and race shape suited those making ground (ran time comparable to BM64 later in the day). His effort to stick on was game and with that in mind like he draws out here. Should find the front and with the rail out 5m/bog track it should be fairly difficult to make ground early. If he finds the front he should be winning.
Bendigo R2 No.1 - HAVRAN
Was heavily backed ($1.50 into $1.35) on debut at Mildura back in May over the 1000m before it all went awry, bit went through the colts mouth and he just pulled himself to the outside fence mid-race before easing out of the contest. Suggest he's got some serious ability (Weir stable money usually spot on) and with a few gear changes for this resumption suggest he could take a power of beating. Taking on trust he's a more mature horse but expect from the outside ally they'll roll forward and look to take luck out if it.
Bendigo R4 No.2 - RUN CHARLIE RUN
Was easy in the betting fresh at Moe when winning well over the short-course (1000m), jumped on the bunny and managed to sustain a good gallop throughout to score well. Fancy he had plenty of improvement to come and this really doesn't look any harder. Drops 2kgs at the weights for the rise in grade but should again find the front, key rival will be giving him a fair head start so think he can pinch it!
Best Roughie: Bendigo R6 No.2 - STAR ZONE
Was well-backed fresh here over the 1100m when resuming seven days ago, considering she's a horse who clearly needs further that was bizarre (but suggests she's in good order!). Like the quick turn around and think the immediate progression to a mile is telling. Speed on paper looks ok and wide draw means she'll settle worse than midfield and try and gain some cover. If pattern allows them to run on she could be closing like a rocket late.
Gosford R1 No.2 - BLAZING STEEL
Trialled well on a bog track at Cessnock two weeks ago for his return to racing today, don't think he necessarily gets through the ground that well but he did it well enough. Clearly improved on top of the ground (win on debut/good track rated well!) and he strikes a very suitable group here. Thought enough of him to take him to Randwick second-up on what was a bog track (failed/forgive), think he's got city ability and should beat this lot today.
Next Best: Gosford R3 No.2 - TIM'S PRINCIPAL
His resumption here at Gosford two weeks ago over the 1000m was better than what it appeared, was well backed (trialled well) on that occasion but just gave up a soft lead to a five furlong specialist and it was always going to be tough making ground (winner had pull at the weights). Thought he did find the line ok and clear better off to 1100m, big tick with B.Avdulla going on and he can lead this lot up (lacks speed). Rates to go close.
