Another tough meeting at Eagle Farm, but at least the track seems to be playing more fairly in recent weeks.
Another tough meeting at Eagle Farm, but at least the track seems to be playing more fairly in recent weeks. However, with the rail out only half a metre it might be wise, where possible, to stick with horses you know can handle the new Eagle Farm surface.

R1 12.52pm FERNWOOD FITNESS QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1000m
A difficult race because there are several well-bred horses who have not trialled and a couple of those who have raced have had bad barriers.
DREAM KISSES was a good second at her only start but faces a difficult draw from the outside here. Nevertheless, on exposed form should be the one to beat.
SHOGUN SUN is well bred and reportedly has had a jump out where it went well. He is drawn in the middle of the field, which is no luxury from this start but worth a thought.
TIARA STAR went okay when fourth at only start after she bungled the start and got caught deep. She should be a lot fitter for that run.
CLAIRVUE is related to some handy horses and is from the top two-year-old stable. However, he hasn't exactly set the world on fire in track work. Has to be kept safe here.
SELECTIONS: NO 8 DREAM KISSES, NO 4 SHOGUN SUN, NO 10 TIARA STAR, NO 2 CLAIRVUE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 SHOGUN SUN.

R2 1.27pm BRAVE FOR BCNA BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 2400m
One of the rare restricted class races over 2400m in Brisbane.
JUST KEEP GIVING was very unlucky last start when probably should have won. The 2400m should be no problem and has the best of the weights.
IBERIA gives every indication that he wants the 2400m. He was far from disgraced in a similar race last start and at least he is a horse who tries.
MR ONE ELEVEN stood in the barriers last start and went around 200m behind the rest of the field. It wasn't the best preparation for a 2400m race but he is the class runner.
EMERALD CITY has a claim here and was good last start. But he still has a heap of weight. Probably his best chance would be a slow run race with a sprint home.
ROCK THE PAC is gradually getting fitter and he is another who should be suited at 2400m. He looks the value bet here.
SELECTIONS: NO 9 JUST KEEP GIVING, NO 8 IBERIA, NO 2 MR ONE ELEVEN, NO 1 EMERALD CITY.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 ROCK THE PAC.
JUST KEEP GIVING - 1pt @ 4.20
R3 2.02pm BERLEI CHRISSY BRA CLASS 6 PLATE 1000m
Yet another hard race because of the weight scale and the way some of the better chances are drawn.
GOJO MIMO gets into this okay after the 3kgs claim. He did race well in Sydney earlier this year and he has a lot pace which he should be able to use from a good barrier. He can turn it up if challenged in the lead but looks well placed here.
TOP TONE is up in weight here and back in distance but is an honest galloper who would be even harder to beat on a soft track.
ANOTHER WHISKEY is from a big betting stable and had very good form last campaign. But again another who is drawn poorly and while placed three times is yet to win first-up. If they go very quickly early he can finish over the top of them.
ALPEN ROSE would have been the top tip but has a horror barrier draw here. She will need plenty of luck but on form hard to beat. Stable indicated she would run because she missed a start last week.
SELECTIONS: NO 1 GOJO MIMO, NO 3 TOP TONE, NO 4 ANOTHER WHISKEY, NO 9 ALPEN ROSE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 4 ANOTHER WHISKEY.

R4 2.37pm CIVFORCE PIPELAYING BENCHMARK 95 HANDICAP 1400m
Another tough race but surely DESERT GENERAL can win one of these types of races. He has been a model of consistency in the placing stakes but still remains on the minimum. He is further aided by a 3kgs claim here.
It was hard to miss the effort of DREAM FINNISH when she rattled home for third last start. There is a strong case to say she should have won. She can find trouble in her races but with luck will be in the finish.
ONE INCH PUNCH is one of the most honest horses around and handles this track well. He is starting to get up in the weights but hard to leave out of the chances.
PUNTA NORTE has given more than a few punters an ulcer. But one day he will win one of these races by lengths. He has been consistent without winning this campaign.
We have always had an opinion of FAST ARROW, who is right down in the weights and has the inside barrier. He usually goes better second-up and not the worst here at huge odds.
SELECTIONS: NO 5 DESERT GENERAL, NO 6 DREAM FINNISH, NO 2 ONE INCH PUNCH, NO 3 PUNTA NORTE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 12 FAST ARROW.

R5 3.19pm BREAST CANCER NETWORK AUSTRALIA QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1400m
There are some promising horses in this race but none more so than THE LAST KISS. She looked very hard to beat at Doomben on Wednesday but was scratched for this. A former top two-year-old, she has had a few problems but managed to win on protest at the Sunshine Coast last start. The 1400m suits her and she should get good cover from barrier one.
BALBOA ROCKS has been racing well and has won this track. The distance also suits him. He has been up for a while but has been holding his form.
HEARTS HONOR is down in weight and looks to be yet another better placed at 1400m. He should get the run of the race from the handy barrier draw. Did look the winner last time but just faded in a longer race.
RHYMING is a very honest filly who is always around the place. She looks well placed against some of these with a 3kgs claim.
ANOTHER SLPPER has had little luck of late and would be best ridden up on the pace. Provided he can jump here, he could be the best value runner.
SELECTIONS: NO 4 THE LAST KISS, NO 2 BALBOA ROCKS, NO 6 HEARTS HONOUR, NO 7 RHYMING.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 5 ANOTHER SLIPPER.
THE LAST KISS - 1pt @ 13.00
R6 4.02pm HASTINGS DEERING CATERPILLAR OPEN HANDICAP 1200m
LONDEHERO (Best Bet) is going for his fourth win in five starts. He was a "gunna" horse who ran on well at the finish of his races without winning. But he seems to be able to sprint far quicker of late and puts fields away smartly. The big question is how he will go with jockey Robbie Fradd suspended and unable to ride him. There is no doubt Fradd gets the best out of him and Jeff Lloyd will have big shoes to fill. The pace here will also suit him. On a day where there appears to be few overwhelming favourites he looks the stand out.
SELECTIONS: NO4 LONDEHERO, NO 7 SPORTING PAGE, NO 1 FRESPANOL, NO 2 SALUTER.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 10 FLYING RIDDLE.

R7 4.38pm BAKERS DELIGHT CLASS 3 PLATE 1600m
UNASSUMING (Next Best Bet) did the right thing by us when she came from last to win a similar race at her last start. The 1600m should suit and she does handle the new Eagle Farm track. She also has a 3kgs claim, which means she is very well placed under the Plate conditions. Another thing is that big fields at Eagle Farm always generate plenty of pace, which is a further plus factor. She does look a very good each-way chance. The Steve Tregea stable is in fine form in recent months and his each-way strike rate is very good in city races. He has a 28 per cent win strike rate and a 61 place strike rate.
SELECTIONS: NO 12 UNASSUMING, NO 9 BECKONING LIGHT, NO 3 NO THANKYOU ALI, NO 14 SCRABBLE.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 15 HIDDEN GOLD.
UNASSUMING - 1pt @ 7.00
R8 5.13pm PINK SPORTS DAY NO METRO WINS HANDICAP 1300m
SHARPE HUSSLER has always had a huge wrap on him but has not always lived up to it. He is a funny horse who seems to have one short sharp sprint and it needs to be timed right. It was a very good run in much harder company against some experienced open company horses last time and this looks far easier.
STAROCITY is an honest type who is always worth an each-way ticket in this type of race. The inside barrier should be a big help to his racing style. Has had a few chances but will win one of these one day.
STAR OF NIGHT has always been rated a future star but has had a few feet problems. A good winner at the Gold Coast last start and should be ready to step up to city class.
SNAPPER was rated good enough to run in the Queensland Derby last campaign and has had two trials for his comeback. He probably wants it further but if there is a fierce pace watch for him late.
SUNNY VICTORY (Best Roughie) hasn't had a lot of luck in some of his defeats of late. If luck goes his way, he might be the surprise packet.
SELECTIONS: NO 6 SHARPE HUSSLER, NO 10 STAROCITY, NO 11 STAR OF NIGHT, NO 14 SNAPPER.
VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 SUNNY VICTORY.
