BRISBANE BRONCOS vs CANBERRA RAIDERS

The Broncos have gone off the boil recently losing 4 out of their last 5, including a poor effort against the Warriors last week. They head back to Brisbane and play a Raiders outfit whom are full of confidence after some good performances recently. I feel the Broncos will get back to the Grand Final side of last year and if they do so here, they will win and win easily. They get Oates and Gillett back whilst the Raiders lose Wighton and Boyd (Shannon, not Les).

In fact I am that confident of the Broncos winning convincingly, I am going all chips in – Broncos 13+ ($2.20 UNIBET), Broncos to score the first try ($1.65 Ladbrokes), Broncos Half-Full double ($1.75 Bet365). It will be a Bronco-thon. I expect ex-Raider Anthony Milford ($12.50 LuxBet) to have his try-scoring boots on tonight so back him to score first try, and maybe as a bit of a hedge, he will cross at some stage, so take him to be Anytime Tryscorer as well ($2.10 UNIBET).

It will be all one way traffic in Brisbane tonight.

WESTS TIGERS vs SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

The Tigers are a terrific price ($2.60 Ladbrokes) and at anything above $2.50, I will be on them. The Tigers were much better than the score line suggested against the Roosters who won the contest through a superior kicking game and 8 turnovers in slippery conditions. The Tigers showed what they can do when they get the ball, and I expect them to go well here. Tedesco is a superstar, Farah is back and despite rumours he is on the outer, he will be primed for a big game.

I think the Tigers can catch Souths napping and expect them to lead all the way, so take them in the Half-Full double ($3.80 LuxBet) and looking at a first tryscorer – it’s easy when you glance at the Tigers team sheet. He sticks out like dogs balls – James Tedesco (. He really is an amazing player and expect him to use his speed and guile to cross the paint first.

The Tigers represent great value in this match and will give us some ammo for the weekends betting.

NEWASTLE KNIGHTS vs NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS

I can recall in the deepest corners of my magnificent football brain that the Warriors really struggle against the Knights in the Hunter and over the years have gone there as favourites, only to be rolled by the local mob. The Knights have won the last two meetings held in Newcastle and whilst the Cowboys beat them by 30, there were some encouraging signs to emerge. At least they are having a go.

They come up against the Warriors who are world beaters on their day. At other times they might not test the Yagoona Redbacks U/15’s side. They were on song against Brisbane but I feel they might come over and go through the motions as only the Warriors can do. As such I give this game a massive chance of an upset result – so I am siding with the Knights ($3.75 UNIBET). The line sits at around 10 ($2 Bet365) and if you fancy grabbing some start as well, dive in.

It seems a bit of a craze this man bun or top knot thing and whilst he is sporting one of these hairstyles that would have made him a moving target in my day, Jake Mamo knows his way to the tryline so back top knot, I mean top Knight Mamo to score first ($12 Sportsbet)

This is exactly the kind of game the Warriors get beaten in and can really see it happening again.

PARAMMATTA EELS vs GOLD COAST TITANS

We go up to Darwin for this encounter…speaking of encounters – I once had an encounter with a crocodile up in Kakadu. Thankfully it was in a steak format with a twist of lemon and a dash of pepper. Good eating those things. Also good for handbags as well but I can tell you where there will be no handbags – out on the field in this clash.

The Gold Coast have impressed me recently. In fact if you take away a mini-slump mid-way through the season, they have been one of the competitions form sides. They have been putting in lots of effort recently and their last gasp wins against Penrith and Souths show the mettle of a class side. I just hope in the humidity and distraction of the top end, they keep their focus. They have had a couple of unlikely wins and this game is all about attitude, and if they keep their attitude then I think the Gold Coast ($1.80 Palmerbet) will win this game.

There is just a bit of fragility starting to show in the Eels line-up with injuries hurting on top of the off-field issues, missing Takarangi and Foran really doesn’t help their cause against a team of unheralded stars who have really stepped up this season like Agnatius Paasi and Ashley Taylor. Parra will come out steaming, Semi Radradra will appreciate the warm conditions and will stick with him as First Tryscorer ($8.50 Bet365).

SYDNEY ROOSTERS vs MELBOURNE STORM

The Roosters were good last week with a very well executed game plan in the wet against the Tigers. Their forwards like Guerra, Friend and Warea-Hargraves were all very strong given they were without Pearce and Cordner. The flipside was the Melbourne Storm – they took their name from the carnage unleashed on Sydney and produced their own spectacular display of wave after wave of great football, demolishing Penrith in no uncertain terms. Craig Bellamy sides are so well coached, and they are starting to get that aura about them that they have had so often in the past decade.

The Storm look near impossible to beat at home but out on the road they are beatable. Having said that they were brilliant last week and I can’t see them losing out to an improving Roosters outfit. Storm to win ($1.47 UNIBET) and I believe some very good value to be had Storm 1-12 ($3.10 William Hill) as I cannot see them smashing the chooks.

Cameron Munster is a young man on the way up in his Rugby League career, he has only scored 3 tries this season but I am backing him at nice odds to score first (($11 William Hill).

Storm too good for mine but by no major margin.

MANLY SEA EAGLES vs PENRITH PANTHERS

They are starting to kill me the Panthers, but I am going to give them one more chance because they have to win here. They simply have to. My best bet of the round are the Mountain Men ($1.56 UNIBET). Manly are embroiled in all sorts of controversy that has to destabilise the club, the area copped a flogging from recent wet weather with their training ground awash with floodwaters as journos in dinghies trying to get an angle on last week’s revelations. So it hasn’t been an ideal preparation after being easily held in the nation’s capital by the Raiders last week.

It is an afternoon game this one, on what is expected to be dry conditions so a good bet could be going overs in Total Points ($1.90 Sportsbet). No chance the stiletto’s will get caught in the much maligned Brookvale Oval turf.

I really like the look of young Cleary – he could play a couple of hundred 1st grade games this boy, his is only young but looks an out and out first grader.

Despite having a few out the Eagles have a reasonable backline. Brett Stewart – Snake, as he is better known by – has only scored 1 try all season. For him that is just unheard of, and his record of scoring at Brookvale is 2nd to none, so we expect him to get the chocolates as first try scorer ($13 Bet365) in this contest.

I also don’t think the Panthers will run away with it in a high scoring game, so let’s execute a plunge on the Panthers 1-12 ($3.20 Bet365) with the reputable Australian bookmakers you find on Oddschecker.

ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS vs CANTERBURY BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs pushed the in-form Sharks all the way on Monday, they accounted for the Roosters the round before, and maybe ‘Bobby Dazzler’ Hasler is getting the best out of his team. These sides that are middle of the competition ladder need to start winning so the pressure is on and this should be a cracking game. It is being played at ANZ on the public holiday Monday between two very well supported clubs, weather expected to be fine, both teams very familiar with ANZ so it shapes up as a great contest. I have to stick with the Dogs ($1.44 Bet365) on recent form, Kasiano and Hopoate were brilliant on Monday, Jackson outstanding in Origin, they are going to make life very difficult for the Red V and I expect them to win, and win easily. Bulldogs 13+ ($2.60 UNIBET). Curtis Rona ($7.60 LuxBet) knows his way to the try line, he has done it so many times before and cannot see why he won’t be First Tryscorer here. Bulldogs to march on in a big way.

CRONULLA SHARKS vs NTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

How good is this? The Sharks love a Monday night game and love them at Shark Park. Betting suggests it is take your pick at around $1.92. It is no fluke Cronulla have won 9 in a row and sit atop of the ladder. It is a harmonious side playing as a team, Barba seems to have put on a yard of pace this season, Ennis and Maloney are steering the ship superbly for the brilliance of Bird and Holmes to capitalise.

It will be a spectacular night in the Shire with the locals jumping every hurdle thrown in front of them and I can see no reason why this won’t continue here. I am siding with the Sharks ($1.97 UNIBET). Come on Sharkies, make it 10 in a row!

You always have to respect Thurston, Scott, Tamou, Morgan and Co, it is a red hot side trekking down from cane toad central so I expect this to be a very tight affair, I see immense value in the Sharks winning 1-12 ($3.20 William Hill). Those odds are FAT.

First Tryscorer: Sharks to get the scoreboard attendant working early, I am the leader of the Valentine Holmes fan club so get on Val at $9.15 (LuxBet) to set the Shire alight early on in a belter of a game.
