City haven't kept a clean sheet but they haven’t had many problems at the other end.
Newcastle lost narrowly at Sydney last weekend to slide down to seventh, the lowest position they’ve occupied all season, but nonetheless an improvement on their last place finish last term. City, meanwhile, are in excellent scoring form having won their last two games 5-1 and as a result have moved up to fifth, the position they finished in last season. The table is still very congested, however, and a win here would see City right in the mix at the top of the table.
Newcastle’s three defeats this season have come against both Sydney sides, who currently sit first and third in the league, while they’ve beaten Victory at home and City themselves on the road. Six of their nine games this season had fewer than three goals (four saw fewer than two) and seven were goalless at half-time, including all five of their home matches. However, their record at home to sides that finished between 4th and 7th last season was W1-D0-L5, though they managed to score in four of these six games and five saw at least three goals.

City are yet to keep a clean sheet this season but they haven’t had many problems at the other end of the pitch, resulting in six of their nine matches having at least four goals. All four of their wins this season were by at least two goals, but interestingly all of these wins came against sides currently in the bottom three. Two of these came on the road against Adelaide and the Mariners, whilst they drew at Sydney and Brisbane, and lost a 3-2 thriller in the Melbourne Derby. Their record on the road to sides that finished between 7th and 10th last season was W1-D1-L3 and if we include the games from this season then five of these seven matches have had at least four goals.
Indeed, City won this fixture 5-2 last season and in Harry Novillo they have a striker who is in excellent form, having scored four goals in City’s last three games. They’ve failed to keep a clean sheet this season, while the Jets have scored in their last four at home and as a result we expect there to be goals in this one.
