Sydney have won two of their three trips to City since 2013/14.
City’s run of four straight wins was brought to an abrupt halt when they travelled to Brisbane and were beaten 3-1, though the game was tighter than the score suggests as Brisbane’s third came in the 94th minute. Despite that defeat, City remain in third going into this game, but level on points with Sydney in fourth, who picked up a much needed 4-1 home win against bottom of the league Mariners, having won just one of their previous seven.
Five of City’s six wins this season have come against bottom-four sides, with the other in the Melbourne Derby against a Victory side in the midst of a terrible run of form. They’ve beaten the lesser teams convincingly and are comfortably the highest scorers in the division having scored 23 of their 30 goals in these six wins. However, the defence is a concern as City have lost at home to the Wanderers and the Jets already this season, conceding three goals in each of these games, and they’re yet to keep a clean sheet at home as all five of these matches had at least three goals with three seeing at least four.

Sydney had scored just three goals in their last five going into the Mariners game, but they found their shooting boots and put four past them, with three of those coming in the first half and it could have been more as they coasted to victory somewhat in the second half. On the road Sydney’s record is W2-D2-L1 as they’ve travelled to each bottom-half team and since the start of last season their away record is an excellent W12-D6-L1, with 11 of these games seeing fewer than three goals as they managed eight clean sheets. The first half has been goalless in four of their five away matches this season and they’ve drawn the first half in 11 of their 12 games overall, with the sequence being broken against the Mariners in their last game.
Sydney have won two of their three trips to City since 2013/14 and since Melbourne have recorded most of their victories against the lesser sides this season while Sydney have an excellent away record, the home team look short to us and so we’re taking them on.
