Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers - Saturday 19:30, Fox sports 4

Sydney’s 2-1 defeat at home to Perth made it three losses in their last four and they’ve now slipped down into the bottom half of the table, though they’re still only seven points behind leaders Brisbane. The Wanderers suffered a defeat of their own at the weekend but theirs was much more surprising and arguably damaging as they were thumped 5-2 at home to struggling Wellington and their misery was compounded by a late red card for Jonathan Aspropotamitis. They still only trail Brisbane by a point but whether that harrowing defeat has a lasting effect remains to be seen.

Having been excellent defensively for most of the season, Sydney have now conceded seven goals in their last three and kept only one clean sheet in their last 10, this after managing six in their first nine games. Their home record this season reads W4-D3-L3, though three of those wins were against current bottom-three sides and the other was against the Wanderers themselves early on in the season when they were yet to hit their stride and struggling at the foot of the table. Indeed it was a similar case last season when their four home wins came against the bottom four finishers and their record when hosting top-three sides since that time is W0-D3-L3.

Much like Sydney, the Wanderers have struggled defensively recently, conceding 15 in their last six without a clean sheet. Their away record this season is W4-D3-L2 with one of those defeats at Sydney and the other at City. They have scored at least twice in six of their last seven on the road as five of these games saw at least three goals. Three of their four away wins this season have been against bottom-three sides, while they’re W1-D2-L2 against teams between 4th and 7th and three of the last four of these games saw at least three goals.

The Sydney Derby tends to be a fixture that produces goals, with both teams finding the net in four of the five meetings since the start of last season and three of these five games seeing at least three goals. With both these sides slipping defensively recently but still in good scoring form, we expect there to be goals in this one with both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals both appealing.
