Saturday, 7:30pm - Parramatta Stadium

It looked ominous for the in-form Adelaide when key play-maker Marcelo Carrusca was withdrawn at HT against Melbourne City last week. City came out on top via a Nick Fitzgerald winner though Adelaide forward Djite missed two sitters late on to salvage a point for the Reds. The defeat, Adelaide’s first in the league in 2016, was unexpected and it meant they slipped from first to third in the race to top the regular season. Carrusca remains a doubt here and he’s key to Adelaide’s chances. His influence could hardly be exaggerated. In 38 games he’s started since the start of last season Adelaide have won 58% of their matches picking up 1.95 PPG but they’ve lost 7/12 without him – gaining just 0.92 PPG.

Western Sydney’s 1-0 win at the Jets in week 23 meant they leapfrogged their opponents here into first place. Just three points separate the top-four with four games remaining before the playoffs. The Wanderers have won seven of their last 10 home matches and also four of their last six hosting fellow top-half opposition.

Adelaide have been in great form of late but they’ve historically struggled here. They are winless in five trips to Western Sydney since 2012/13 with three defeats. Carrusca hasn’t been officially ruled out here but it’s a tough ask to return this quickly even if it is a crucial match at the top of the table. It’s worth waiting on the team new but if Carrusca doesn’t start back the Wanderers at 2.05.

Recommendation: Western Sydney Win 2.05
