SYD v PER - Sunday 5:00pm (AEDT)

Sydney’s poor form continued as they were beaten 2-0 at home to Adelaide on Saturday, meaning they’ve now lost four of their last five and are winless in 11. As a result, they’ve slipped down to 7th and have no chance of reaching the Finals. Perth, meanwhile, continue to go from strength to strength as their home win over City was their 10th in 11 games and they’ve stormed up to 5th and could rise even further with a win here.

Having kept six clean sheets in their opening nine games, Sydney have since managed just one in their last 17 and have conceded 13 in their last five (2.6 gpg). Their home record this term is W4-D4-L5, with three of those wins coming over bottom-three sides and four of their defeats coming in their last five home games. When hosting top-half teams Graham Arnold’s side are W1-D4-L7 since the start of last season, with that lone victory coming against the Wanderers when they were yet to hit their stride at the start of the season.

Perth’s strong form can largely be put down to their scoring form as they’ve only managed three clean sheets in their last 11 during their excellent run, but they’ve found the net 32 times (2.9 gpg). Indeed, they’ve tended to find the net early, leading at the break in eight of these games. Their overall away record this season is W5-D1-L7, but all five of those wins have come in their last six road games. However, it’s important to note that all five of those wins were against bottom-four sides as they’ve lost all six of their trips to top-half teams.

However, Sydney are certainly not playing like a top-half team at the moment and Perth won at the Allianz Stadium back in February and they can repeat that feat here. Sydney appear to have lost interest domestically and are instead focusing on the Champions League, winning on Tuesday and with another game to follow on Wednesday, they could have one eye on that fixture and that would be a dangerous thing to do against this in-form Perth side.
