The champs are on the ropes already at this early stage of the season but the big question is when will they kick into gear?
ADELAIDE V BRISBANE ROAR Friday night, Coopers Stadium
The Reds only lost twice at home on their way to winning the premiership last season. This time around they have lost three times already at Coopers and each of them being by a 2-1 result. In fact, their four-game losing run have all been by the same score. ROAD WOBBLES
Brisbane continue where they left off last season by being one of the best home teams in the competition. They took the most points at home in 2015/16 and this season have two wins and a draw at Suncorp including last week’s 1-0 win over premiership heavyweights, Melbourne City. Their big concern in recent times has been traveling where they barely had a handful of success last season. In this current campaign they have heavy loss to Newcastle and a narrow win at Central Coast on the road. This game will be a big test of their title credentials. RECENT HISTORY
One stat playing in Adelaide’s favour is that they’ve taken out the last two clashes between the sides. Prior to that, however, Brisbane had won three of the previous four. For punters who like to play the totals over/under, an average of 3.8 goals per game have been produced between the teams in their last five outings. HOW IT PLAYS OUT
The Reds are beginning to stare down the last chance saloon. Incredibly last year’s premiers plate winners are 14 points behind current leaders Sydney FC (15) but are only five points off sixth spot which is held by last year’s Grand Finalists, Western Sydney. Although they have won back-to-back games against Brisbane they have never won three in a row against them. For the Roar, although they have been bad travellers, seven wins in their last nine games in Adelaide surely gives them cause for confidence. While John Aloisi’s men are sitting pretty in second spot on the ladder, that 4-0 loss to Newcastle a few weeks back in the Hunter sticks in our mind so we aren’t totally convinced by them. That said what has Adelaide done to justify us picking them? THE TIP: This has Draw written all over it TOTAL GOALS OVER/UNDER 2.5: Go the Overs. Adelaide is leaking two goals a game at home so far this season while they should also be good for at least one goal on their part.
