Melbourne Victory has the chance to build on their recent run of good form when they host the spluttering Jets on Saturday night.
MELBOURNE VICTORY V NEWCASTLE JETS Saturday night, AAMI PARK
Melbourne head into this off the back of a week off due to their game against Wellington being postponed. That will help them no end as they search to build on their 3-0 triumph over the Wanderers at home a fortnight ago. Muscat's men have been rampant on home turf this season, beating Wellington 6-1 and then the Wanderers 3-0 in their last two games which spells big danger for Newcastle. NARROW MARGINS
There hasn't been much separating these sides in recent times. Remarkably there were four straight 1-0 results between them from December 2014 to January 26. Last time they met it was 1-1 with both sides winning two games a piece, along with two draws, in the last six contests. HOW IT PANS OUT
This really looks like Melbourne's game to lose. They are starting to play some really good football and their attackers, headed by Besart Berisha, are coming good including Socceroo Oliver Bozanic. German Maximillian Beister offers more potency up front for the Victory and scored on debut, so don't be surprised to see him add to his tally here. It definitely won't be an easy time for the Victory though as Newcastle generated the most attempted shots (20) of any team against an opponent this season when they played Central Coast last week. If they have that many chances again, you would back them to at least find the net once or twice. The problem will be generating those chances with Mark Jones’ side suffering a crippling injury toll. Star signing Andrew Nabbout and Finnish striker Aleskandr Kokko will both be missing for several weeks after picking up injuries last week. Deposit 500, Bet with 1000! THE TIP: Melbourne Victory TOTAL GOALS OVER/UNDER 2.5: Go the Overs simply because of the injuries Newcastle has which will test their squad depth
