After a stunning weekend for British sport, we take a look at the main contenders for SPOTY.
What a stunning weekend for British sport. Tyson Fury is now king of the heavyweight world and Britain rules the roost in team tennis after Andy Murray’s sensational Davis Cup performance. But what impact does all of this have on the betting for Sports Personality of the Year? We take a look at the main protagonists… World and Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill was as big as 25-1 earlier in the year but the golden girl of British athletics took Beijing by storm, sending her price into freefall. The Sheffield-born star is no bigger than 5-4 now, but coverage of her summer success was a little thin on the ground and recent events mean she's now got serious rivals in this market. She doesn't look great value at current prices.

Fury Fever has gripped the nation since the lumbering scourser earned a hard-fought points win over reigning champ Wladimir Klitschko in Berlin on Saturday night. The dad-to-be is a bit of a marmite character though and even though he’s just 6-1 (from 190-1), it’s hard to see him garnering sufficient public votes to be crowned SPOTY.

An emotional Andy Murray, who has been as big as 25-1 for SPOTY, secured Britain’s first Davis Cup win for 79 years when he beat Belgium's David Goffin in straight sets and in doing so the Scot became only the third man after John McEnroe and Mats Wilander to end a campaign with an 8-0 singles record. The timing of Murray’s performance couldn’t have been any better in terms of his prospects in SPOTY, and at 5-2 he looks the most likely winner now.

The wildcard pick could be record-breaking Premier League hot-shot Jamie Vardy, who was an unconsidered 250-1 chance for Sports Personality glory before he had kicked a ball this season. However, Vardy wrote himself into the record books by scoring in his 11th consecutive game during Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United and is a 33-1 chance now.
