It's a great Saturday of racing action and our man Tom Gilmore has got EIGHT selections.
Flemington R1 No.6 - SUPIDO
Great way to kick off the day this fella, returns to the races for the first time in seven months. Was a dominant winner fresh here on that last occasion over the 1100m beating some good ones who've measured up since! They ran good time that day and all he needs to do is get somewhere near that mark again to be very hard to beat. Group-class sprinter this and he'll make a mess of them.
Supido - 1pt @ 1.85
Flemington R2 No.1 - LONROCKSTAR
Was a blackbook special this fella here a month ago down the straight when he basically went to the line hard held when caught up in behind horses, only really saw daylight in his final 150m and that split was very slick. Winner of that race (Durendal) came out and won again along with 3rd/4th/12th all running well in group company since. Form stacks up and with even luck he'll be hard to beat, kept fresh which is a plus.
Lonrockstar - 1pt @ 4.2
Flemington R4 No.2 - REAL LOVE
Very keen to see this mare step out for the first time under the D.Weir banner, she is a seriously good horse who during the summer carnival in Perth was twice on the heels of superstar Delicacy. That should hold up for a race of this nature, if pattern suits/they can make ground I expect her to steamroll them late. Just needs an even enough tempo midrace to be given her chance.
Real Love - 1pt @ 4.75
Flemington R8 No.9 - CAMDUS
Like these horses on the up when taking on those who've already reached their ceiling. He was good Camdus when putting them away quite easily at Sandown over 1400m recently, the runner-up who he had covered quite easily has since come out and won well in a good race at Pakenham which franks that form. Drops 4.5kgs off that run and draws favourably to box seat 2 pairs back, shouldnt be losing.
Camdus - 1pt @ 2.3
Rosehill R1 No.4 - START WONDERING
Heavy track wont bother this gelding who was stiff not to make it two on the trot at Rosehill four weeks ago, went back at the jump and finished the race well over the final 400m to go down narrowly. Splits were good and suggested the progression to 1500m wont be an issue. Trialled up beautifully ten days ago and the fact he's drawn for a much softer run in transit tells me he'll be winning this.
Start Wondering - 1pt @ 1.75
Rosehill R7 No.4 - OUR BOY MALACHI
What a superb animal this is (won 17 of 21 starts!) and its great to see him back at the races. Was excellent through the autumn last year winning twice at Stakes level before finishing 3rd in a G1 Doomben 10,000. Has trialled up twice for his return, the first of which was excellent and the latest just a quiet spin around. Has an excellent first-up record, handles the sting out of the track and looks suited under WFA conditions. If he leads, he'll win.
Our Boy Malachi - 1pt @ 2.35
Morphettville R2 No.6 - SAWAIKI
This looks a pretty serious colt, had a trial at here at Morphettville 18/1 and he did things with great talent. Ended up winning the heat by 5 lengths and did it in pretty slick time for 2yo company. We didnt see the handbrake truly released there but we will today, should push forward and lead from the wide alley. If he's going to go on and be competitive in G1 Blue Diamond he needs to win this.
Sawaiki - 1pt @ 3.0
Doomben R5 No.4 - THE STOREMAN
I like the way he's progressed this campaign, he looks set to peak third-up here IMO on the back of what wasnt a bad effort in a $1,000,000 race. The fact he's drawn in and gets back to Doomben (where pattern suits leaders!) are major positives and all he needs to do is bring what he brought to the table mid 2015 (on the heels of Didntcostalot) to be hard to beat!
The Storeman - 1pt @ 4.0
