Tom Gilmore's best bets for Sandown, Kembla Grange, Ipswich and Balaklave this Wednesday 23rd March.
Sandown R1 No.5 - VANDANCER (x2 NAP)
Improved out of sight second-up at Pakenham this Savabeel filly, sat outside the leader and really quickened well when asked to (won easily/gap to 3rd). Third-up she sticks at the trip and in a small field she'll again be handy to them and I fancy just a touch too classy, form out of that race has stood up recently (winners down the track) and she's well weighted taking on the older mares. Just wins in my book.

Sandown R2 No.1 - BIG EFFORT
He looks a nice horse this South Australian raider, brings good form into a race like this from across the border. Didnt finish far off Counter Pulse (genuine Group competitive 3yo) last start over the 1050m, was just beaten by whats a good one who had the sit at his girth. Should be at his peak now and will no doubt again roll forward from the wide draw, Sandown often suits those closest to the speed early in the day so with that in mind he'll go close, 1200m shouldnt be a worry, either.

Big Effort - 1pt @ 6.00
Sandown R7 No.10 - MAWAHIBB
Has just found some trouble in his two runs to date this campaign, and in his most recent effort at Moonee Valley did go down to a very good one. Fancy with the right run in he might have gone close there but we shouldnt have any excuses today. Big ticks third run in and stepping to the 1400m. Will box seat and finally show us what he's made of. Last prep he was crossing the line with G1-class 3yos!
Mawahibb - 1pt @ 2.90
Kembla Grange R1 No.6 - TREMEZZINA
She's been stakes competitive in the past this filly and has slowly built into her campaign nicely this time in. She got a long way out of her ground at Warwick Farm recently over the 1300m but did manage to find the line ok, drew awkwardly that day which didnt help but I do anticipate from the friendlier marble today she'll sit closer. Typical Waller preparation which will see her going very close today.
Tremezzina - 1pt @ 5.50
Kembla Grange R6 No.9 - MOHER
Was three weeks between runs when 1350m to 1600m at Warwick Farm, managed to beat all bar two very smart horses (both genuine Saturday class). Drops 3kgs at the weights and hits peak/sticking at the mile. Will roll forward and either find the fence or sit leaders girth. Either way he has a class edge on most of these and should be winning.
Moher - 1pt @ 3.40
Ipswich R5 No.2 - MADIBA
He was ridden upside down last start over the 1200m and as a result never got into the race, forgiving and assessing of run three weeks prior to that where he found the fence and was just nabbed late by one with a softer one. Back to 1000m is a major positive and he is rock-hard fit. If he can jump well and lead, on a difficult track like this to make ground on, he'll be the one to run down at the furlong. Key rival might be getting a long way out of his ground so maps well!
Madiba - 1pt @ 5.50
Balaklava R1 No.3 - JUST WALLY
Dont see them getting back over 900m too often and hitting the line well, but thats just what this guy did at Murray Bridge three weeks ago (winner had been competitive in town). Winkers go back on so expect him to be a touch handier this time and with the run under his belt/step up in trip he should be right there when the whips are cracking. Might make a horse in my opinion.
