Tom Gilmore's best bets for Ararat, Nowra and Bendigo, this Sunday, April 24th.
Ararat R1 No.8 - LADY SELKIRK
Filly was a monty beaten when returning fresh at Donald two weeks ago, found some traffic issues when needing clean-air and as a result lost all chance. Still found the line well and with the run under her belt/fitter she'll go very close. No issue progressing to the 1300m (hit the line like she wants it) and does draw favourably.

Lady Selkirk - 1pt @ 2.10
Ararat R2 No.12 - SKEWER
Debut at Terang a month ago was quite good, in much better company than this. Did plenty right and looked like a filly that needed the outing, she'll no doubt be a big improver off that and 1200m looks like it should suit. Not a case of I think she's a star, more of a right place/right time setup. Gets all the favours from Yendall in gate 2 and really should just be better than them.
Skewer - 1pt @ 2.50
Nowra R1 No.2 - SALT FLAT
He's been competitive against much better opposition than this and as a result I really cant see him losing. Made terrific ground fresh back in February before failing to fire at Kembla Grange. He was 1100m to 1400m second-up so he'll take great benefit from the run and dont mind he's dropped back to 1200m. Can be much handier from the good draw and with luck out of the equation should just win.
Salt Flat - 1pt @ 1.85
Bendigo R4 No.4 - SYRAH
Nice style of 2yo who wasnt far away from G2 winner Scarlet Rain on debut in Sydney. Thats enormous form for a race of this nature and the fact she trialled up superbly 4/4 at Werribee is evidence enough she's going well and should be winning. Wouldn't shock to see her settle in the second half of the field and be finishing home over the top of them late.
Syrah - 1pt @ 2.60
Bendigo R8 No.12 - LABUAN STAR
Like this fella has been freshened back to 1100m after a disappointing previous two starts at Moonee Valley. Was competitive on both occasions but never really gave the impression he'd threaten to win on either occasion. His first-up win at Warrnambool was enormous and done in very slick style, if he returns to that sort of form he'll be very hard to oppose this afternoon.
Labuan Star - 1pt @ 4.60
