Pakenham R2 No.6 - PLUTO

Talented 2yo (now 3) who made his debut in a very slick 1100m affair back in March when well-backed, but failed to fire. He was very colty (fizzed up) and clearly had his mind on other things. Has since been gelded and given time to mature, and going off his recent jump-outs it appears he's certainly a more switched on horse. Latest 800m hit-out at Sandown (6/9) was sharp, he flew the lids, settled and extended nicely under minimal urgings. Race definitely appears to lack speed so the wide draw should allow him to roll across and control the tempo throughout quite comfortably, think he has upside in what looks a limited bunch and Caulfield horses traditionally enjoy the pro-ride.

Next Best: Warwick Farm R2 No.1 - SAVVAN

Was 1100m to 1400m second-up when four weeks between runs on a bog track at Rosehill ($85,000 race) and went nicely on my figures, thought the way she ran through the line when tightened for room upon straightening (and had more to come physically) was impressive, winner looks a smart horse and a drop back to this sort of company makes her mighty hard to beat. Big tick second crack at the seven furlongs and like she's drawn wide, may improve even further on top of the ground.

Warwick Farm R6 No.6 - AEGEAN SEA

Speedy 4yo mare who's a 1000m specialist returning to the races off the back of two impressive trials, latest was in good time/under a hold here at Warwick Farm over the 800m (one of the mornings quickest) when she had the better of the Group-class Kaepernick. Like the two fitness builders that suggest she's primed to fly fresh over the five furlongs. Like the wide draw for her, she should find the front fairly comfortably and if she's allowed to stride mid-race she'll take plenty of catching. Was Stakes competitive earlier this year at Scone (went super v. pattern!).

Roughie: Warwick Farm R8 No.13 - BELLS OF WAR

Drops 4kgs at the weights for latest effort (good!) at Canterbury two weeks ago over the 1200m when only being gunned down late by the promising Sezanne, considering she is genuinely rock-hard fit, draws wide/progresses to 1300m (ideal trip) she's come up big overs. Getting back on top of the ground suits her, she's not at her best on shifting surfaces and despite the fact theres good speed engaged, she may have the chance to find the box-seat and be given every realistic chance. Like the way it maps for her and keen to have something on!
