Central Coast Mariners v Sydney FC - Saturday 5:15pm, Bluetongue Stadium

Not often will you find a situation where an away team that have gone W0-D3-L5 in their last eight away games are comfortably odds-on to win a match but, then again, it’s rare to travel to a team as bad as Central Coast. The Mariners have lost their last six league fixtures including four defeats by two clear goals and last week they succumbed 4-0 in Perth as both Mitch Austin and Luis Garcia saw red within five minutes of each other at the beginning of the second-half – when they were just one behind. It’s guaranteed that they’ll finish rock-bottom now and, given they’ve shipped 56 in 23 while picking up just three wins and 12 points, they can have no complaints.

The Mariners have gone W2-D2-L8 at home this term as they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet despite netting in all but three of the fixtures. As a consequence half of their 12 home games have featured at least four strikes. As mentioned above, Sydney FC’s current form is dire. They’ve conceded in their last nine A League matches and have won just one of their last nine of the road. Concentrating on more similar matches to this their record improves massively however. They’ve gone W6-D2-L1 in their last nine travelling to teams in the bottom-three as four of the matches had at least four goals.

It’s a bit tricky to put too much faith in Sydney but here they face a team devoid of confidence and littered with absentees. We should see goals here but 1.5 for Over 2.5 is on the skinny side. We much prefer the woeful hosts to net but make it seven losses in seven.
