This is probably the hardest game of the week to predict.

There was a lot to like about Newcastle’s performance against Adelaide last week and some may argue they could have secured all three points. Without doubt they had the better chances and had the possession too.

One problem they will have is mental because they haven’t beaten Brisbane in their last six encounters. When I see stats like that it makes me wonder just why a team has been so dominant over the other so on that score alone I give Brisbane a big tick.

That said I love the job that Mark Jones and Clayton Zane have done since taking over the Jets in the preseason. There is a different look and feel to the squad and I think it showed last week.

John Aloisi would’ve been happy to get at least a point from the Victory at Suncorp Stadium last week. Scoring with just 10 seconds remaining on the clock, I thought they were the better team for most of the contest until Melbourne took the lead in the 83rd minute.

I was really impressed with Brett Holman because it’s always interesting to see how former Socceroos players go when they return to the A-league. He made a few incisive runs and passes and that is the mark of a quality player. He will be a key figure for them in this game for sure!

Look for Jamie Maclaren to be a key man for Brisbane too as he’s had luck against the Jets previously. I expect him to get on the score sheet here.

TIP: I am not underestimating Newcastle. Remember they had a strong preseason and began well last week against the champs. Go for a Draw in this fixture.
